I rendered one frame of the GSD trotting easily

    on DS4.12 beta

next frame after 10 minutes crashed my computer

    black screens

one monitor is up now with task manager on but I cannot even click on DS to kill it

yeah unless 4.11 copes better I would not recommend anyone doing animation to use the fur

    was not even Dforce simulated

update had to kill power on switch to PC and restart

Here's some more work on the Husky...still needs tweaking on the muzzle and legs a bit, but an improvement. With the Husky, coats are so variable, depending on season and even geographical locale of the animal. I personally would prefer a more heavy coat, almost like a Malamute when it comes to adding to my scenes.

aparently you need an RTX card that copes with Optix Prime to do animations wink

    someone show me otherwise yes

I will test on 4.11 though myself to confirm but honestly if it is the case DAZ needs to start stating GPU requirements on product pages

as the dog and fur were the only things in the scene

That is correct. You can load the dForce hair (if you can) and then add the additional warg fur on top and it should work pretty well. It might not be perfect but it would work well in most circumstances.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was actually talking about the morph parameter included with the Warg (Parameters > Actor > Breeds > Warg Fur HD) that makes the model itself (neck, shoulders, and tail) look like it has more... floof? Poof? I completely forgot about the included fibermesh fur since I use LAMH presets instead. Though it may end up a Daz Studio crasher, combining a LAMH preset with the Strand Based Hair might be another option.

If you're talking about breed shape sliders and whatnot, you can combine them all.

In regards to LAMH, with AM's Lion, I combined the strand-based dForce mane with the Catalyst fur and it came out wonderful. However, I don't know about stuff that isn't supported by the Catalyzer. I've been having a lot of problems lately with LAMH and getting presets for other figures to work right by exporting to .obj. There's a Dog 8 thread where a couple people shared their presets and one would just crash out Daz every time I tried to load the preset in through the LAMH plugin (I have the full plugin). I would totally pay for AM to do Catalyst presets for more animals...in particular Dog 8, Horse 2, and the various HiveWire animals. Without the Catalyzer support, LAMH is just...so hard to deal with if you use Iray. Other than AM's own animals, which now all have been updated for Catalyzer support, the only presets I've had consistent luck with are the ones I've gotten that were made specifically for the HiveWire animals (Housecat, Elk, etc.) because they have very detailed instructions on fur density values. Even so, they still take forever to load in and easily blow out a scene in terms of size unless you render the animals as a separate layer (I normally try to render everything together because that's just my style and canvases don't work right with the in-render bloom shader that I use religiously).

*edit so you can see the lion*

    4.11 3min a frame but does it

just under 3GB on GPU-Z first frame

    was 4GB using 4.12

that's everything inc running 2 monitors

second frame jumps to 4GB but I have 6GB on my 980ti

it renders is slow but PC remains useable

4.12 was ramping up to over 5GB but never saw final readings as it blackscreened

it did render another frame presumably CPU will check log file later

  • couldn't afford all three German shepard, husky and wolf, but already had wolf 2 and husky so i'll make do with those but didn't have any German Shepards so grabbed him rendered with a photo off my two brother and sister

I might buy the German Shepherd later but am more likely to buy the Millenium Dog Ultimate Bundle next time it goes on big sale. I would of snapped up one of those dogs had it included that Ultimate Millenium Dog bundle as a freebie.

What kind of psychopath would put these clothes on a dog?

I think I should put in a request for a stylish, stand-alone bandanna in the Product Suggestions fourm. Maybe also a nice looking fedora or cowboy hat - really need one for my book's canine protagonist (though I have had some success fitting human hats...).

Sims pets fashions.  all the adorable hats, scarfs. heart sweaters and hoodies

Dachshund shape and eyes, otherwise gray wolf.

(Increased hair density to 200, set line tessellation to 3, reduced PR hair scale to 75%)

I put in another thread that I'd love to see a Growing Up product for the Dog 8. I don't see why Zevo or another talented PA couldn't make morphs with sliders to create puppies of varying ages and more breeds! Or even turn the dog into a cat or rabbit!

I can see why they can't - It's unlikely to make enough money to make it worth their while.  Let's not forget that there have been some really extreme variations on the DA Horse 2 like Llamas and My Little Not Copyright Infringing Ponies, as well as Hyenas for the Big Cat 2 and some really amazing fantasy/sci-fi creatures for Dog 2, but most of those vendors never followed up on those products, while the morphing rodent project from Allesandro only got squirels and a porcupine before it petered out.  If those projects, whcih would have been less work, weren't profitible enough to spawn followups, an even ore complex project would be even riskier.

Puppies would be MUCH more popular than all the animals you mentioned put together. Llamas are cool but how many times would you actually use them? (I think I did buy them but still haven't used them, same with the squirrel.) How many people in the world love and own PUPPIES? Huge difference.

  • nah, MOUSE. I argue mouse!!!!!  And an updated rabbit! and kitten, and updated cat. I'd buy those 3 times over dogs. Ha.... loving and owning doesn't make a difference, i mean, I love and own cats....okay maybe??? I also had rabbits... and a mouse... pft.

Not a dog person, really, but I still have some dog stuff. Cats i love. Fox, yes. Dude even skunk has been used a few times.... :)

Will, i like your improved hair settings, and Melissa, definitely improved the hair settings as well. I still need to make time for this...

It's odd. I met a lovely female German Shepherd. She was so friendly and well behaved, if I could afford one of those, I'd get one. But the next day, this 3d model appeared in my email. I thought, I'll get it. Now, the real dog was an absolute beauty, her fur was of different lengths and textures, and coloring. Her face and eyes were very expressive.

But, I figure with what I am able do with the model, it's not that critical to be accurate for my purposes.  I will use this model as it is significantly different from the other breeds I got, the dachshund, lab, great dane and bulldog. There are so many interesting dogs, like the wolfhound, the collie, the St Bernard and spaniel types I look forward seeing developed. With Dforce, I imagine the smaller terriers with fluffy hair and mustaches can be nice, like norwich and yorkies.

Doing an image search on Google for wolves shows a wide variety of colors and markings, as well as shape. If a PA with texture chops of CWRW from another store, (the artist who did all the MilHorse and Horse 2 coats, later used for the centaurs,) were to create an addon for the Dog 8 Wolf with three or four textures, including masks for the density and length of the dForce fur, and a few shaping dials…? That would be fantastic! I'd buy something like that on release, even if it's not a Daz Original.

That same image search, btw, did not produce a single wolf with a coat similar to that included with the Wolf product. Just sayin'.

Stupid doggo question: Does Dog 8 have a "non-male" morph?

Yes. There's a morph to make it female and another just to neuter.
