  • Only reason for the previous "skip" is that their "Genesis" numbers didn't match with their character numbers (e.g., "Michael"), which was confusing. Now Genesis 8 matches with Character 8. Can't think of any reason to skip numbers now, the distance between version numbers doesn't indicate a degree of change. If they were to ever in the future to do something so radically different it was breaking with the Genesis model, it would be better to go with a new product name entirely.

I can't think of a reason to skip Genesis 9 unless it's the same one that made Microsoft go from Windows 8 to Windows 10. I never found out why they did that. Is the number 9 considered bad or unlucky in any part of the world? If so a multinational company might not want to use it.

It wasn’t just Microsoft: Apple released the iPhone X at the same time as the 8. I know that the number 4 is considered unlucky in east Asia because it rhymes with the word for death, but I’m aware of no similar taboo about the number 9.

I wonder whether they will move on from Genesis. There were 4 generations (e.g. Victoria 1-4) before Genesis and now there have been four Genesis versions (0,2,3 and 8) so perhaps it is time for another major change, especially considering they held G8 for an extra year.

  • They could always try Enneam :P

The reason Microsoft skipped is rumoured to related to Windows 95; it has a 9, just as Windows 9 would have had.

IIRC it was said to be because some parts of the code (very old but still in use) tested if OS was Windows 95 or 98 by checking simply if version number started by 9.

This is the answer. Source: i'm a random internet person who heard it on the internet from someone who I trust has insider knowledge. They were strongly speculating so that's basically the same as hearing it for real.

    Also...Yeah, I think it's right.

In case of Microsoft they had internal issues with 9 because of Windows 95 and Windows 98.

In case of Apple, they just wanted to name it X, which is the Roman number for 10.

  • I like daz genesis models but they could use some help. This technology needs a upgrade from beer can to actual force pushing from the inside of the model agaist clothes and air pressure. Not just bones to bend but force to push the mesh from within. Maybe a dforce mesh? Now that would be a great Genesis 9. One can only hope. hahaha

I have so many generation of characters, from over the years . I really don't look to invest in characters anymore & only buy them when they are greatly reduced in price.. I tend to look for plugins, scripts, texture paks environments sets . so it does not matter about genesis9 unless its some in creditable new mesh design that would be a game changer to make animations with.

But with the new FTC Coppa Rules that went into effect yesterday  I will not be buy any more children or teen character models at all.  because I will have no place i can show them if i were to use them in animation without them being removed from YouTube. or other social media platforms.   I guess that is progress ,the more we go forward with new improved technology the more backwards & restrictive the rules become on how we can use it,

IMO i still think genesis1 was the best cross figure compatible mesh daz has created for animation. because how well  you can morphs dial a creature or monster into a human figure along the timline was a very nice feature when making animations   but that is my opinion, other will vary.
