    It stands for Layered Image Editor. It is a utility built into DAZ Studio that, as the name implies, allows you to create layered texture maps by adding images as overlays on top of existing maps. For example, one common use is to add tattoos to the base or diffuse skin maps of a figure.

    I've used it quite a bit for that. It also works for dirt, scars, makeup, etc. The biggest issue with LIE is that if an overlay crosses a seam, you have to fiddle with it a lot to get good alignment. With a little photoshop, you can take eye makeup from one texture set and apply it to several others without having to edit each set. When you're fiddling with an image in Photoshop, or another image editor, you can save it out, and update the Daz Studio viewport without reapplying the LIE, or reloading the scene. Ctrl-i, IIRC, will update images from the source.
