One more question about anatomical elements

OK, the Dr said to smear on this ointment...wait, wrong genitals.

OK, so I understand that Daz wants us to use their products cause that's how they make money, and I appreciate that Daz prefers to let outside venders handle all the seemier items that some of us like to use. But gimme a brake guys. One of those at a time. If you are going to make it so difficult to use third party products, please make the genital items that you do produce work. I have loads of genital mats that have nothing to be applied to. The female mats do not seem to work with the female characters, especially gen 8. I have only one working male gens but it only works with micheal 4 which is ashamed to remove his boxer shorts and it needs 3d viagra. I also have some old gen, and gen 2 from somewhere that does not work at all. That of couse is in the lost and found. SWo my question is, how can I do the kind of work I would like that will nat be shown here as required in the guidlines?

You have to buy at least one adult character Pro Bundle per gender per generation to get the daz genitals. The genetal mat you have probably came with characters, but if you don't have daz's genital geograft they won't do anything.

Or go over to renderotica and buy their third party gens. Which i've heard are much better than the daz ones. But be aware that site is EXTREMELY nsfw.

This doesn't adequately convey the eye-bleeding you will experience.

Hmmmm, no eye bleeding here and I visit there a few times a week,

To the OP, as pointed out, the DAZ gens only come with a prop bundle and some vendors do not included gens maps with their characters for some very odd reason.

best to go with the 3rd party gens from renderotica since that have more functionality and in many cases do not need the gens maps to work.

no one that buys Daz products does nudes anyway, right?

That would be my preferred method but almost nothing I have gotten from renderosity works in Da Studio.

renderosity or renderotica? the later being the ones with the gens products. wioth any thrid party content, just open the zip and look at the file path, then do the same for your existing DAZ content. You should be able to see where everything goes, just drag it over to the correct folders when you find then. I have gigs of 3rd party content and it all works as it should

I tried that and got all my content messed up and only 3  items that worked. I am doing something wrong.

Both Renderosity and Renderorica supply their products in zip files. There is no Install manager package. So the secret is to put the contents into the right DAZ content folders. Especially important is to find the right Data folder. When I have made mistakes with installing manually it is usually because I have more than one Data folder and I mistakenly copied to the wrong one. The zip files usually have the correct folder hierarchy so it shouldn't be too confusing. I can't remember anything that I bought from either store not working when installed correctly.

I have a separate folder for non-Daz items, just using the same file structure.

If you need to find something it can be a little easier.

I've had issues with products from Renderosity not working at all, but never with CGBytes (the parent store of Renderotica.)  What I HAVE run into with both, though, is the creation of new Genesis folders via typos, decisions on the part of the creator to use non-standard folder names, like a article of clothing being in cloth, clothes or even wardrobe, inconsistantly putting all of a vendor's products under the vendor's (or some other name) sometimes and other times just dropping the product into a folder, and, most annoyingly, sometimes having DAZ format content in a master folder called my library, content, my content, library, or stuck as a sub-folder in the textures section of the poser runtime.  All that said, the QC does actually seem to be better, overall, at Rotica than Rosity.

Not that we wouldn't face the same problems with stuff delivered from the DAZ shop, right? wink

Buildings going either in Architecture, Props/Environments/Architecture or just Environments (or any mixture of these..) and typos or added -s to "rename" a directory...

I can say nothing bad about Renderotica. All the stuff I bought there works nicely. It helps that I started working with PCs in MS-Dos times, when one wouldn't be able to achieve anything without knowing the file structure of one's harddisk

This is why you always unzip a non-DAZ product in a temp area, inspect the directory structure, and migrate the contents to the right places in the actual content directory. In fact, a lot of the DAZ legacy products that used the Poser directory structure were a bit of anarchy too. You should never just unzip a product directly into the content folder without inspecting it.

Absolutely - I always unzip to a temporary location first and then work my way down the folder structure, copying to the right place. I guess it might be a little OCD but at least I can see where the content is going.

Absolutely.  There ARE a few DAZ artists who have some weird folder placements, but usually it's more a question of "why are they placing that in the props folder" and there doesn't seem to be any official rule as to what goes under clothing and what goes under accessories, whaht goes under character and what goes under materials, and the why are these poses packed with the environment and not in the figure specific figure folder... but at least with DIM you can always locate where the heck the items that you're looking for are.

Never!  I have done some without clothes though ;)  After all, if we had been meant to walk around nude we would have been born naked.

  • On the zipping to a different directory question... I always store the 3rd party stuff in a separate directory from DAZ.  That way if something goes south I can figure it out much easier (simply unload the other library and see if if fixes the problem).  If you put them all in the same library and something screws up the gene pool it can be really difficult to find the problem child.

I’ve made two purchases from Renderotica, and both have included DIM install packages. Hell, even a few freebies I’ve downloaded from Renderosity have been DIM capable

Don't put them in the same folder as DIM installs to, presuming you use it and not that other thing.

I'd have seperate folders for each site, or however you decide to sort your content.

Well, that's news to me. I don't even look for DIM packages, I just automatically unzip the zips and move the content.
