Superhero emblem progress report

So...I copied the surface map from the No Suit for G8 Male, opened it into Gimp, applied a transparent layer with the Gothic cross image I wanted to use for my "Modern day Knight Templar", and saved as in a separate folder. It looks perfect on the standard suit, but thus far, I'm getting the "embossed" look when applying the No Suit maps. It looks alright, but it's supposed to be a silver cross on a black suit...any guidance appreciated!

Options,
Embossed? - Add a monocrome version of the cross to the displacement or bump map as well
Silverness
- Paint it silver.
- Use the L.I.E. (Layer Image Editor) vs applying it to the map.
- Apply a monocrome version to the reflectace map.
- Load the transparent cross image on a plane set the maps metalicity reflect etc and a geometry cutout map for opacity, so you only have Cross visible in render the way you want it. Render it out then apply the newly rendered cross to the suits maps.
Copy the cross into the same position on the specular maps and make it really light, so then the cross will have more light bounce off.
Make a mask by having the cross all white on a layer of black, then plug that mask into the "Metalic Flakes Weight" and adjust the flakes to your liking.
Keeping in mind that I'm faking my way through (in other words I'm a noob who doesn't know what he's doing ;) ) would I do the above in Gimp or in Daz?
in gimp...you would edit the actual maps (and resave with a new name), then plug those maps into the appropriate areas of D/S
I guess until I'm more familiar with Gimp to properly create color maps/displacement maps/ opacity maps, I'll settle for the "embossed dark logo" look, like Christian Bale's Bat suit...unless MS Pait 3D is more straightforward to color the emblem so it looks silver (hell I'll settle for white)?
