she may not be in my style suited for the style I do I do think she looks good and like the renders uploaded here and this style is very popular in products I've seen sold in stores as I've said before happy this place tries to cater to different styles
I hope G9 has support for better smile lines. I'll probably end up buying this character because I buy most female character bundles, but you can see clear limitations of G8 smile lines here. A shame because I really do like this character and think it has a lot of potential.
...the only trouble is having a new figure being the trigger for all other discounts in a special sale.
BTW, Still waiting for Cat 8.
I got so excited last night when I saw the character announcement thing on the sales page as I totally like the character, and then immediately heard the womp womp in my head because I bought the bundle last week and am tapped out for a week or so. I'll pick her up after Christmas, I can always use another toon'esque character to dial in for the animes I'm making!
more fantasy/scifi/toon/caricature type characters is always a good thing to me
its difficult to explain why i prefer it...maybe im just weird. But hyper-realism to me comes across as less artistic. less...appealing i guess you could say. Achieveing hyper-realism is impressive in its own way, but if its just like a photo it doesnt seem so special to me
read here and a few other threads and the liking of this new lady and others but notable to afford yet, perhaps maybe daz consider other buy options like the buy now pay later or laybuy maybe called something else there it's when if you like something you have a store put itaway/holdit for you at the price it is and you pay it off in installments once paid you get it but price stays the same as your paying off
she is cute. I wish I had money to buy her.
Yeah, I completely agree with you. For the past two years doing Daz, I've been striving to do hyper-realism, but I do animation and though it looks fantastic, it always feels a little off for some reason and maybe that's the uncanny valley everyone talks about. But then I started dialing in girl 8 or her tie-in characters, or Kaneda, Yuzuru, and my go-to skin is Hazel from Girl 8 now, and everything just clicked for me. It felt like an anime and I know this is where I want to go with my work. I'm doing a trailer right now for a feature I want to do and I'm so thrilled with how it's looking, it's as if I'm watching a 3D movie from any studio or Japan (I'm not saying my work is on their level though lol, I have sooooo much to learn still!). On the other hand, I do enjoy getting realistic characters still though because I've found for my grapic novels, those characters are perfect for that for me. So it's amazing how there's positives for everything in their own unique way, that's one of the reasons I've fallen in love with doing this.
That would be a fantastic idea! I have missed some great deals because it came a day or two early from when I could afford it.
While a nice idea, I think it would cause a ton of issues.. one solution would be to pick up the GC's when on sale.. that hopefully will help with cash flow if you can keep it in the account long enough ;)
IMHO, the problem with trying to sell a character that looks like tweaked version of Mika and Tika... is we already have a Mika and a Tika.
And Teen Kaylee and Teen Joise for that matter because give them pointy ears and they'd slip right into lineup.
As far as I'm concerned, the last 2 months has been largely a desert for interesting content. I mean, I might give half-a-pass for Darcy as at least she wasn't them retreading old ground for the 27th time but the last figure I wasn't completely ambivilant about was Yuzuru and only then because he was filling a drastically needed hole in the lineup. Still had issues with him though, such as his bewilderingly feminine hip structure.
As far as stylized females go, I'd rather buy the new Yuki Onna figure. At least she's interesting and not your classic "Tweenage Bratz Doll Fairy Girl"...
She is good to add to Girl 8 & her crew.
nevermind
Yes, I've been having fun lately exaggerating characters with morphs to make them more unrealistic arty, doll like or exaggerated fashiony , almost like the drawings I used to do when I was 11 lol!
Eh. I want my illustrations to look like illustrations. Not photographs. Some degree of stylization is very welcome.
Nice render
It actually looks like the dresses the waitresses wear in a decent restaurant near to me.
That's how I feel about this type of figure, but if I'm being honest with myself I'd buy about six or seven more slight variations on Zelara and her pro bundle. I pick up tons of pretty guys who frankly aren't that much different from each other. The slight variations are probably boring to other people, but allow me more variety within the type of character I like.
And that is the whole thing going on at the moment. Most archetypes are covered with the current line-up, so DAZ could simply stop releasing these main figures. But that would also mean they had no reason to make pro-bundles anymore, and those do probably make a nice penny, while they also keep the customers (us) interested. So, what we get now is variation pro-bundles for already existing archetypes. Maybe with occasionally some new archetype sprinkled in, but, most bases are covered. And if not, then we can cover those bases ourselves by combining different morphs, or archetypes from previous generations using one of the conversion/transfer products.
How Daz decides what the next archetype figure/variation is going to be? I don't know. They are probably influenced by sales figures. If 5% of the customers bought Lucas 8, yet 60% of the customers bought Rune 8, then it's not hard to guess which archetype will be the first to receive one or more variations. And it's also possible that Daz just looks at the new figures submitted by the PA's, and when it finds something that stands out, gives them a good offer to relinquish the figure's rights to Daz, and promote it to the main line-up with pro-bundle and all.
Does this mean it's time to move onto Genesis 9?
By all means, NO. The *only* valid reason to move to a next generation, should be, a vast improvement in figure-technology. And I just don't see that happen for now. The improvements of Genesis 8 over Genesis 3 just barely warranted the new figure. And while I can think of a few things that would improve the figures a lot, which might require a lot of changes to the figures' mesh and rigging, I don't see any of those things happening anytime soon.
EDIT: And this is from someone who's still hoping for Lilith 8, but even Liliths' archetype(s) can already be accomplished by combining existing G8F products.
One of the reasons I dial some of The Girl into almost every character I render it to give more of a cartoon feel, just to help pull out of uncanny valley a bit. My style (if I have one) is definitely more realistic 3D, but not photorealistic. The Girl, and characters like Rynne, Ktaraya etc. to me are excellent additions to dial into many other characters (or a great starting point for customization).
Yeah, I should probably try to use GC's more. The problem is to get the best discounts I would need to exceed my monthly budget by a lot. I should probably just stop spending for a few months, then wait for a big discount on GC's (the discounts that usually require buying a minimum $300 gift card), then I'd be set for 6 months or so. As it is right now, I can only get a gift card for the amount of my purchase. I keep the budget around $30-40 a month - with an occasional big month or two when a mush have comes out (of course that usually means I don't buy anything for a month or two). As costs have gone up, I buy less (but spend about the same), so now I'm thinking saving up for a big discount GC would probably help a lot.
I should note, I'm not complaining. I'm really glad DAZ has some great sales that allow people with limited budgets to still enjoy this hobby. I just usually enjoy stuff later than most, as I often have to wait for the items that are "I really want this" and not "I need this now" until they go on a deep discount. I especially appreciated the PC sale this year, it enabled me to make a couple of purchases that I otherwise I would never had made (so a big thank you to you too).
I was supervised that the promo for Rynne was over today (was thinking about just getting the base character with a few add-ons). Darn, missed that one
I'm sure I'll be able to pick her up later though!!
What's with the "non-negative thread" can we do that as next time I put out a thread I'd like to put that in !
Anyone know what is the outfit she's wearing here?
https://www.daz3d.com/the-legend-for-genesis-3-and-8-female-s
The original thread was closed by a mod because of too many repetitive negative comments that went beyond the scope of discussing the actual product. I just thought those who did like the character or bundle could have a place to post renders or comment about the actual pros and cons without going off topic in a way that mods would have to close the thread.
I get bored doing realistic renders for some reason and think it's so much more fun to add various toon and fairy morphs and playing with unrealistic heights and features. I especially like over-sized eyes and irises.
well my style is more on the realistic side just my style BUT realisticly if you really think about it this lady and others like like her are more realisticly accurate for humanoid fantasy characters as the humanoid creatures are humanoid in appearance to some extent but aren't really humanistic looking. In a lot of interpatations of mythical and other worldly humanoid creatures such as mermaids, fairies and such they at first glance look humanish but often close up they are not often with large mishapen eyes/faces and bodies that are different. Lot of asian live action and anima/manga demonstrates this really well in their creatures. I've picked up others like this lady for these reasons and for other races that share human characteristics and as dolls and they work quite well I think with the realistic people, one day when I can afford this lady I may grab her too. Anyway would like to see some renders of her as some fantasy/scifi hybrids centaur, mermaid, bird girl, alienoid extra think she'd be great
I dont see any free stuff with this pro bundle. Has Daz changed how pro bundles are released ?,
On many previous new releases of pro bundles, Daz gave a bunch of free items with it, such as 2+ free earlier gen pro bundles or 70+ $ to spend amoung a set of older items.
But i dont see any of that here.
Pro bundle sales are only lasting a day or so these days so you may well have missed the deal.
