WOW - personally I wouldn't consider them poor people cars, I guess people's ideas regarding being hard up vary drastically.

...didn't claim they were "normal people's" cars. Just posted the links to illustrate that there are a lot of close "look alike" vehicles based off of the real world ones, but with enough tweaks here and there to avoid infringement.

If you go to the pro sites where they have models that are exact replicas with the proper marque badges, most will have the "Editorial Use Only" restriction which basically means having to contact the actual owning company for permission to use in a game or other non journalistic publications. Saw a Zamboni that wasn't very expensive I thought about getting, until I noticed the licence restriction.

The 'poor' cars I always see are vans. 15 year old Chevy, Ford, and Dodge vans dominate the poorer neighborhoods since they can pack in families. Then you have cheap old cars college kids drive, like Corollas, Civics, and such. Vintage Civics are still somewhat popular among modders.

The Chevy Chevette needs to be in that big post above. Those were everywhere for a really long time, especially the low income neighborhoods. They were best selling small car in the US for 2 years, 79-80. But yeah, you don't see many cars from that era at all anymore. And thank goodness, many were gas guzzling death machines. Today the ones I see are driven by grandparents or show cars. And even most grandparents have something way newer these days. Economy cars are where its at, like the Civic, which could get over 40 MPG in the 90s and early 2000s. Then they kept making economy cars bigger and effectively died out. But those types of cars will stay popular for some people for years to come because they do get such great gas mileage and also run forever. Except the Geo Metro, those just died. Geos hung around a short while and you might still see one occasionally, but they didn't last as long as the Japanese imports. The hyper mile types loved Metros though.

...yeah there was that and the Vega as well but didn't want to take up a full page.  One other that was particularly ugly was the Citation (1980 - 85).  Chevrolet should have been given a citation for foisting that on the public.

No. No direct import of 3DS into Studio, and a swarm of useful-looking models are 3DS. However, there is the online comverter at:

    http://www.greentoken.de/onlineconv/

which will usually convert a 3DS model into .obj which can be imported. One usually has to spend some time sorting and reassigning materials to the matt zones, but it's worth the hassle if you need a specific model for something.

...well, there is this, and it's on sale.

I still have not figured why the PA stuck a Pontiac Firebird front end on a Chevrolet Nova.

The Pontiac Ventura was basically the same car, though the production car grille wasn't quite the same as the one in that model.

Just thought I should clarify that you still have to get seperate permision to use the actual DAZ assets in a game as well, though a lot of the Renderosity PAs have been offering interactive licenses for games at a higher cost.

..yeah there is that however still not as expensive as the permissions required for models from the pro sites.

..yeah there is that however you ' have to contact and make a deal with the original IP owner which can be a lot more expensive..

  • Location is important too. Cheap cars in Europe will be totally different from those in North America or Australasia. Similarly, cheap cars in France will be different from the UK or Germany.

There is a 2CV6 in Renderosity free stuff as an object file, and a poser 2CV4 in their marketplace. The 2CV4 is a little overscale. A less good model of a 2CV6 is here on DAZ.

Don't know much about any other ''cheap" car models, as the only car I have ever been interested in is the 2CV.

    Regards,

    Richard.
