Converting Aiko/Genesis Figures to Gen 8
in The Commons
Hello all,
My end goal is to get Aiko 3/4 and other genesis figures to Gen 8 Female.
I have the Gen 3 to Gen 8 conversion tool (and Gen 8 to Gen 3).
Could someone explain what process and models I need to get the figures to Genesis 8?
Here are the products that I want to convert:
https://www.daz3d.com/3d-universe-aikotoon-4
https://www.daz3d.com/aiko-3-0-base
(Anything Genesis 1)
Please let me know what products I need. For example, for Aiko, I'll need Victoria 4.2 base, right?
It would really help to get some advice. I'm going for the 'old videogame character' look for my art.
Thanks!

There are a few videos about that are meant to help converting, but to be honest, I was never able to get their processes to work.
Getting the mats across, however, is easy using https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-victoria-4 . Note that some distortion occurs so a little modifying of the mats may be needed.
AikoToon 4 is indeed based on Victoria 4. Aiko 3 is a totally different figure, from the same generation as Victoria 3.
There's no product which will enable you to convert characters from V4, A3 or G1 directly to G8. You could convert the morphs to G3 then use your G3 to G8 converter to move them to G8 though.
To convert character morphs from V4, A3 or G1 to genesis figures up to G3 you would need GenX2 and its various add-ons:
Textures are more complicated.
For V4 textures the product otherunicorn linked will work.
There's no product to use Aiko 3 textures on G8F. There's one to use them on G3F (Aiko 3 uses the same textures as Victoria 3), but it won't help if you want to convert to G8F.
For Genesis 1, it depends which UVs the textures use.
Hmm this is the answer I was looking for. I think this is all I needed then. That's a pretty rough journey.
Have you done it before? Could you share images of the morphs working on Gen 8 or something please?
I want to especially see some of the genesis ones or Aiko figures.

I would also love to see results of Aiko 3/Aiko Toon converted to G8!
or Aiko 3 for Genesis
Aiko 3 for Genesis gives you the base A3 shape for Genesis and an autofit clone to fit A3 clothes to G1.
If all you want is to have the base A3 shape for G8, then yes, you can purchase A3 for Genesis and then transfer that shape to G8 like any other G1 shape without the GenX2 A3 add-on.
But if you want to transfer morphs made for A3, you need the GenX2 A3 add-on.
The Anime Starter Bundle is still free, so you can get A4. V4 is not free ATM, but they frequently give away V4 bundles.
The old Texture Convertor (TC2) product did a passable job of converting between V3 and V4 textures. If you had that, you could use A3 textures on any figure that can use V4 UVs. Alas, TC2 was pulled from the store. I have it. I use a few V3 textures on G2 via the V4 UVs for G2F.
A3 certainly had her fans. There were some terminally cute characters for A3. The rigging on the 3rd generation base characters was truly horrible, though.
Can one use https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-special-edition-victoria-3 instead of tc2?
No, as those products don't work in the same way at all.
Correct. TC2 actually remapped the texture files to the target figure's native UVs pixel by pixel. There was some stretching, and odd bits like between the toes, but generally usable. Pity it got pulled instead of being updated.
Here's an example conversion. The figure on the left is using the V3 Sanura texture converted to V4 with TC2 and applied to G2F using the V4 UVs. The figure on the right is a custom L3 character with the original V3 texture, both converted to Iray.

I should add that the morph itself was not transferred. I just spun up some dials on the new base.
if you can get them to V4, then textures can be transfered with Blacksmith 3D or Texture Transform (or similar) from Renderosity; that is the method I use for V4, G1 and G2 era characters. It doesn't involve attatching items to the figure, which the product (legacy uvs) discussed above do.
Results with both are great.
Converting morphs via https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-generation-x2 is probably the easiest. Once on G3, they can be manually transferred and I have done so. Although I use Zev0's XTransfer https://www.daz3d.com/xtransfer--genesis-3-to-genesis-8-converter as it also transfers the helper morphs too.
I personally don't care too much about textures - I'm just going to make a bunch of cute characters in G8. I noticed that a lot of aiko figures have that 'old playstation/dreamcast' character look sometimes. They'll morph perfectly with some of my characters. I even have some really nice custom anime heads and such. I might start a gallery here or something.
Hi,
I'm at it again. I'm having trouble getting my stuff working and I have my tabs FULL of stuff.
I have Genx2 and a few other transfer utilties and so many of these tutorials are outdated.
Trying to get Willow from Genesis 2 onto Genesis 3 so I can port it to genesis 8 with a tool I bought from the daz store.
Help!
I haven't stopped googling and searching since I posted the last comment.
I'm having the issue of 'output path must be outside of daz conenct folder'.
The content manager has the path that I'm saving to - they're identical.
Then I tried saving to "F:\Install Manager\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D" and "F:\Install Manager\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs"
Same warning. I'm just trying to put Gen2 Willow onto Gen3 and nothing is working to resolve this error. I've got everything else pretty much solved - it's just this.
Anyone got a solution?
Is it asking for a root folder - like F:\Install Manager\, though I wouldn't put content in a folder used for Install Manager.
Ah I named it that because that's where the stuff from install manager was being sent. It works just fine and it doesn't house DIM.
I got everything working now for genesis 2/3. I can safely convert to 8.
However now I'm having issues converting from genesis 1 to anything. In fact Genesis 1 won't even show up in my Source options for GenX!!
I looked up a few tutorials and I saw that you can drag 'genesis' from the content library into GenX but it just says 'Poser figure not supported'.
It does the same with with M4. I don't know how to fix this part at all and it's frustrating.
Richard, do you know how to fix this?
I'm sorry, I don't have GenX so, assuming you have the correct plug-ins, I can't really offer any specific suggestions.
Ah here we go.
I destroyed every genx/genx2 file that I had and then I redownloaded the GenX2 stuff with DIM (getting Genx2 first and ignoring the addons).
Now genesis shows up.
So now I'll write my quick tutorial:
And that all worked for me just now to transfer Kimberly to Genesis 3.
I can now use Xtransfer to get her from Gen3 to Gen8.
This should cover pretty much all that you need to do that. It took me a long time to figure this out and gather the data so I hope someone stumbled upon this way.
And when in doubt - delete all of your stuff, re-install with DIM, put daz on the root of your device and try my method
Thanks!
