What is the difference between DressShop 2.0 and DressShop 2.0 Upgrade? The text on both product pages looks the same, but the Upgrade says you need 2.0. So what does the upgrade bring as new?

I suspect that requirement is a mistake - based on the product names and prices, I would imagine that the 2.0 Upgrade is for buyers of the original (https://www.daz3d.com/dressshop) to upgrade to the features of 2.0.

  • I suspect you are right. Nevertheless I have logged a support request to make sure as the product descriptions are unclear or ambiguous. I will post what I find out.

I actually purchased the old version not realising that there was a new version and just hoping that it would work for win 10. But I suppose if similar source code is compiled for other os then that is unlikely. After purchasing the old version I discovered that there is a version 2 [which doesn't state in the product information that it is for Windows 10 but merely says that it is for the latest DAZ version and Poser.]. I assume that it is for Windows 10 however because the old version says that it is for Windows Vista to 8.

What's worse is that both versions were on sale at half price. But as I had no reason to believe my purchase would not work on Windows 10 a but the new would I stuck with the old version. On testing it crashed several times and many aspects were not working properly. DOH! Oh well a genuine candidate for the Darwinian award. I wonder whether you can accidentally commit suicide by using the wrong version of the software. Perhaps when you smash your monitor over your head in disgust?....hee. hee.

I will post what I found out anyway.

The upgrade usually works if you already own/installed DressShop 1.0.

  • Thanks to CEO of Abalone LLC for the update.

Also from the manual for Version 2.0

"Needed system software DressShop runs under the following system software: Windows VISTA, WIN7 and WIN8 operating systems."

There is still a feature on Windows 10 [at least creators edition where you can run compatibility for WIN8]. I will try this with my new upgrade. I believe that is an old WIN7 feature so it should be in all WIN10 versions.

Right click the shortcut or executable file and select compatibility tab. Tick the WIn8 compatibility.

After trial and error I noticed that the tutorial shows the project file in the Users subfolder of the drive on which the program is installed.. So after accessing the users/Documents/Me/DressShop2/Projects for instance fixed problems with inability to access the files or the project objects simply not appearing. Program seems to be working fine now. My only problems have come about because when I split the front into two pieces you cant seem to select both sides and still do a mirror cut. It only selects and cuts one side. I will check the manual on this one also.So I think it can be used okay once I get to know what you can and can't do. I should have put the lapels on the jacket before I cut down the middle.

I also note that you seem to get a different results with undo depending on what is selected. You are also unable to redo. I suppose it's pretty good to do quickie clothing items without a lot of complex mesh modelling. So it saves a lot of time particularly when you are starting out.

  • PS. Windows states that most older programs should run on WIN10 without using this feature. So perhaps if I retry with a correct project directory there is no need to run in WIN8 mode. I will try this as well.
