Strand Based Hair - how to make patterns?

Hey, I want to make a strand based hair but how do I go about making the hair different colors such that, for example, the hair is a blue & pink polkadot pattern? If there a link to a thread where someone has made color patterns before already? Thanks.

The only way I know of to do it would be to apply the polka dot pattern to the figure’s diffuse map and put that map in the SBH’s root and tip maps.

Thanks. That's what I was trying to remember.

OK, another question. The Diffuse Map of a human head will be some shade of pink - brown but the hair pink & blue. Can I add a second 'transparency' or some other PBR/Iray channel to feature pink & blue texture map on that new channel to use with the SBH? Or do I need to make a skull cap or geoshell and build the hair with the pink and blue polka dots on the skull cap or geoshell?

I guess I will play around with it some and choose the easiest solution that works correctly for my goal.
