They really are different

There is much talk of the similarity of the new DAZ "base" releases. Just for the heck of it, I rendered Jessi, Robyn, Alexandra, and Bridget, all of the 8 family.
They are actually very much different in their face structure.

Alexandra has a unique face shape and I can recognize her at a glance; a lot of the recent characters look more like variations on a theme to me, and I have trouble telling them apart if they're not labeled. They do have different bone structure, but it's similar to clocking that a modeling agency has a specific Look they hire for.
They do have different bone structures, which gets even more obvious when you apply more morphs on top of them. Especially when you try to add a custom character morph that's for one of those figures to one of the others. In that last case, the end result may appear almost alien with weird elongated and flat surfaces on the face. For the end user though, it's mostly interesting that they provide more sliders to combine and create custom characters, something few people actually seem to do..
One of the things that makes them look different in the above picture is that they are rendered with different skins. If you want to look at how much the morphs differ, you should render the same image using the same skin for all 4. Alexandra is likely to still look distinct, the other three less so.
From this render there are like three morph slides between Jessi and Robin, first is to reduce face depth, second is nose bridge with and last is lips square.
Between Aleandra and Bridget is a similar amount. Between the two pairs ist a bit more, but yes for a good comparison using the same skin or the clay would be best,
Also I don't take into account what they look from the sideview. There might be more there.
Not sure why you are assuming all Daz users are elderly and unattractive...
Agreed. davesos render looks like most of the people I see daily. While I occasionally have projects that require an older, unattractive looking figure, I have no desire to render ugly unattractive people if I have a choice. besides, there are many addons that can change the look on any other figure to something less attractive.

Some people just do not comprehend analogies. This is what I hope the next few realses will be. Just mix it up a little and more average looking people. I don't mind the new release, but more unquie people would be more where I am at now since I have a soild collection of Gen 8 people and content.
Bridget is going to look distinct from the others no matter what skin you choose. Head shape for each are quite different, at least to me.
What we need is more variety in the texture maps themselves, not the character presets or face shapes. Faces can be dialed to be either ugly or beautiful; textures are extremely difficult to edit aside from tone adjustments. I think when people say a new release is "just another white girl", they really mean "just another white texture with nothing to set it apart from all the others".
You left out Leisa 8. It's the hair and the lighting in the promos that removes the perception of difference (or, if you like, creates the perception of similarity). However, many people are complaining about the fact that Leisa, Jenni, and Robyn appear to be morph dials on Olympia/Victoria/_____.
Yes, we can morph dial our own. But, ideally, the 8 Core family would each be as distinctive from each other as possible. The recent run of somewhat similar faces does not appear to be an attempt to add more character types. No matter, with XTransfer I will now have convenient access to all of the Genesis 3 crowd (along with GenX'd prior generations).
but gen2/3 all look pretty similar as well
I've been thinking and saying that myself for a long time...like, how many of these releases are needed? Get those morph dials out and churn your own. It is a lot easier though. TEXTURES ... yeah, it would be cool to have more variety there for sure. Skin Builder is good, but it too is limited.
None of them are "needed". Been saying that for years, but I always get grief for it. I own one pro bundle and a handful of base characters and yet I never has issues with creating any type of character I need for a project from morphs or texture editing.
for sure. I succumbed to something not needed. I look at all those characters, and the heads I bought, and go .."why" :) I have enough morphs to create 50,000 different looks.
Is it possible to use male morphs on females?
Jessi looks like Kristen Bell

To be fair, most of the people you see daily only look like that because of plastic and makeup. <.<
I'm not saying Daz needs more ugly people. I would prefer better diversity and variety. Genesis 8 has done that only a bit better at times. But then they pump out 3 or even 4 fairly white women in a row, and they have very similar skin and even skin settings. They really do blend together, I'd say 3 of the 4 pics above could be the same person at different moments in time.
Since you live in California, then surely you also lots of beautiful women of all kinds of backgrounds. Wouldn't it be nice if Daz Originals could represent them too?
There was a time when a Daz Original main character was something special. Now they crank out one every two weeks, or more. We just had 3 in a 4 week span. Nobody can name every G8 DO off the top of their head.
Things have got pretty weird, too, in the last couple weeks. First Jenni has Zsazsa in her pro bundle, a character who looks wildly different from Jenni. It turns out she doesn't even use Jenni, isn't that odd?
And now Robynn released without a single add on character in her sale. So her pro bundle addons are the only characters that use her. Again, I find that very odd. Honestly it is kind of concerning to me. It makes me really wonder what is going on over at Daz. Though I actually don't mind so much, because I hate add on characters that need a DO I have zero interest in. I really hate that practice. In that sense, Zsazsa is a breath of fresh air, because I can buy Zsazsa without ever touching Jenni. However, I don't think that's why they did it.
Is Jessi actually named Jenni, or have I completely missed a release?
I live in TX, would never live in Cali, LOL
So that's why you like them so big!
LOL! Me either ;).

I was born in Cali (Sacramento) and my mom's a native Angelino, but despite numerous opportunities to move my business to Los Angeles, I choose to live in Texas (Houston). Why? I'm paying less buying a five bedroom, two story house with a three car, two story garage with an upstairs servant's quarters than than a lot of people in L.A. pay to RENT a two bedroom apartment.
I live in Washington, and we're being actively colonized by people fleeing the high cost of living in California.
I'd mostly agree with that, although there are a few physical differences where the existing supply of morphs is still a bit lilmited. For one thing, older non-caucasians tend to wrinke quite differently from generic European whites as they age, so while we finally got a set of older asians, it would be great to see both more morphs and more textures introduced for those, while we've yet to see anything in G8 supporting Native Americans, Polynesians, Middle Eastern Indo-Pakistanis, etc.... However, the haphazard nature of the release of the last couple of Pro Bundles makes me suspect that we're getting near the end of the G8 line, and if history is any clue, most of the PAs will drop development of new G8 material to favor the new figures when those are introduced.
I'd think that's more from San Francisco and the general build up of the tech industries, as the cost of living in Seattle is actually higher than Los Angeles or San Diego, and tied with San Jose. Heck, it's actually cheaper to live in Honolulu than Seattle, which is kind of crazy...
Who said anything about Seattle?

Ask some of those ex-Californians where they work. 19% of the population of Pierce county commute daily to Seattle, which sounds pretty good to a CA resident, given that its less than a drive across Los Angeles (or Houston, for that matter.) https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/traffic/article160049274.html
Obviously.
Funny... Seeing them together like this really emphasises how Bridget is a cut above the rest, imo.
I do live in California and LOVE it lol. I live in a part of LA where so many people are drop dead gorgeous because they're all wanna-be or working actors/models. But there is tons of DIVERSITY! Different races mixed together to create stunning new looks. But we, as Daz users, can do exactly that with all our morphs and skins (which is one of my favorite things to do in DS, mix characters and morphs!) The Daz Originals are just starting points, not sure why so many want to use them as is, out of the box...
That said, it's much easier to make a character ugly than beautiful, so for me, the more attractive the starting character is, the more likely I will be able to come up with a new beautiful look. If I need fat and ugly, that's an easy spin of a few dials... I think people put too much attention on the Daz Original characters. There are TONS of PA characters that are more diverse and better made...
