Optimum disk layout for use with Daz Studio ?

Hi Everybody,
This is the Current Configuration of my system

ASUS WS X299 PRO
Intel Core i7 7820X Skylake-X
32 GB
2x ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
C: M.2 Samsung SSD 960 PRO 512GB <--- Windows 10 Pro, Daz Studio 4.12
D: M.2 Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB <---- Daz Content
E: SATA3 Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512GB
F: SATA3 Samsung SSD 860 PRO 1TB <---- Daz Packages

The idea was to give the fastest access speeds to Daz Studio and the content however because Daz Studio is so slow at loading new items and opening files perhaps the following disk configuration would be faster.

C: M.2 Samsung SSD 960 PRO 512GB <--- Windows 10 Pro
D: M.2 Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500GB <---- Daz Studio 4.12
E: SATA3 Samsung SSD 860 PRO 1TB <---- Daz Content, Daz Packages

Splitting Daz Studio from the OS, could speed things up ?

What does the panel think ? Any other things that could help ?
Note, the Daz Studio and content folders are already excluded from my AV.

Steve.

I don't think it matters much where you install DAZ Studio, it's more important how fast the disk where the content is installed is.  Loading items can indeed be slow sometimes, it takes several minutes to load a G8 character on my system but that's mainly because I have a lot of G8 morph packages installed, without these it takes less than 30 seconds AFAIR.

Personally I'd stick to your current setup, mine is set up the same way.

  • Yeah, I think you are right, leave the content on the fastest disk but control the number of morphs because, as I discovered using some of the Microsoft process tools, every time you load something Daz Studio churns through all the library folders looking for them.
