Question about LIE and temporary files

HylasHylas Posts: 5,258

So, if I understood it right, if I use the LIE it will create a new image file and save it in a temporary place.

For how long are those files kept?

If I make a scene using LIE, then leave it untouched and unopened for a long time, could it happen that I open the scene and DAZ is unable to find the temporary files because they have been automatically deleted in the meantime?

I made a shader preset a few months ago using LIE. I just tried to apply the shader and DAZ couldn't find the temporary file. What happened here?

Does using LIE a lot clutter up my harddrive with temporary files that never go away?

Appreciate some info on how DAZ handles all this. Thanks!

This script is pretty useful to save the temp textures you want to keep: https://www.daz3d.com/lie-baker

Everytime you launch DS the temp files folder will get cleared. So if you need to save your tempfiles, locate your temp files folder and move the files somewhere else before launching DS.

I use LIE for material presets all the time and, as long as I don't move any content (textures) they work fine, DS just recreates the tempfiles when prompted to. However, I agree with Leana that LIE baker is very useful indeed. Baking the tempfiles also shortens loadingtimes considerably, since DS doesn't have to recreate the files.

I've had that happen too. Maybe shaders are different, since they can be applied to any surface, materials seem to work fine.

If you use Scene Optimizer (and I always do) there is a check box for baking LIE maps.

Thanks for the answers! Knowing that DAZ recreates the temporary files each time is good to know.

Still not sure what happened with that shader, because I've used LIE to make other shader presets and it worked...
