Why all the high heels?

...it is getting frustrating when I see so much nice clothing content that I'd love to have for some of my story characters, however they always tend to have high/spike heel shoe or boots.
For example I love the Moto Girl Outfit, it would be great scenes in the city, and I like the tall lace up boots (kind of "mod" looking), but they have spike heels which the characters I have in mind would not be prone to wearing.

Because it sells, apparently.
That's why I snagged every boot and flat shoe that I came across until I had a library.
Time to kit-bash some wardrobes.
I grabbed female knight armor today (in fastgrab, I think) and it had heels. I'll be swapping those out for the boots that were in the new release for males today.
But I do love heels.
....yeah been trying to do that but still just not enough out there. Usually for low heeled footwear content, its basically sport shoes, sci fi/fantasy boots, and dress/business shoes. Would love more thigh boots that would come close to the ones in the outfit I mentioned with low heels.
...yeah but they aren't very useful in for story illustration work which depicts more "everyday" people instead of fashion models..
too funny, I can't find enough heels for G8. I own every G3 and G8 heel from Arryn at rendo and here and now they are doing dresses with heels as an afterthought. Too bad as there are still so many styles thathaven't been made yet.
You can always use the geometry editor to hide part of the heel to make it flatter
..I stopped with G3 as I can't afford to re-invest in a whole new figure line.
Also footwear tends to have the most issues with autofit between generations.
I've tried using the geometry editor and it doesn't always work or look quite right when finished as there is no heel at all.
I'm with FSMC, always lacking heels, and not finding them on the outfits I'd expect them to have. To the point that I've bought several outfits I was not interested in, because they had heels that I was interested in. That's part of the fun though, finding different clothing articles and combining them to what you want, tweaking shaders where necessary to make them match. The rendering itself is just a matter of sitting back and hoping it turns out the way you imagined, preferrably within a certain timeframe.
I quite like high heels to look at but I so wish that so many pose sets were not assuming that we only have women wearing heels. For that reason it is a long time since I bought a pose set although I am aware that some do come with flat-foot poses. Ideally there should be a high/flat version of each pose - or is that too much to ask for?
...with G3 I have found the opposite (unless it is Sci Fi or Fantasy). Most contemporary footwear including that which is part of a clothing set tends to have high or spike heels. It is tough enough to find more "everyday" type clothing that doesn't have low plunging necklines, bare bellies, cut outs, and styles that make me wonder "how does it not fall off?" that when I see something I really like only to discover it has skinny or spike high heels I end up disappointed.
I've said it before, but I think it bears repeating, complaining about a lack of high heels in the Daz Store is like complaining about a lack of power ballads at a Journey concert.
Just a small town girl, born and raised in Dazzney Land.
Livin' in a Lonely PC.
She took the Iray train goin' anyyyywhere...
Where's Weird Al when you need him?
I have nothing against heels at all. I use them too! But we have plenty, and the force needs to have balance.
Ideally there should be a high/flat version of each pose - or is that too much to ask for?
Some of those pose sets come with flat and heel presets, I've made actions/scripts to make the adjustment.
Heels sometimes do come with that flat (reset foot) pose too.
We need more of Fisty & Darc's 'Amazing Morphing Pumps': https://www.daz3d.com/amazing-morphing-pumps-for-genesis-8-females
"... complaining about a lack of high heels in the Daz Store is like complaining about a lack of power ballads at a Journey concert." - outrider42, you are sooo right! BTW: I use to rate every attempt of a man to get me to wear high heels as an attempted assault.
funny all that clothing you mentioned is very common everyday wear where I live including teachers, retail, bank, real estate, bar, and everyday wear of all ages even in 70's
I make an extra effort to support the vendors who do both flat and heel versions, and well as the vendors who don't mind putting sensible footwear on otherwise really functional clothing that shouldn't have heels. Your money and where you spend it speaks louder than anything, and it's the only reason we have many items and characters in the store now that people said wouldn't sell.
heels are a fetish?
In real life, high heels alter a woman's gait and posture to accentuate certain visual elements deemed attractive. In 3D, most of the models already have those elements accentuated so the high heels are an additional visual symbol of attractiveness.
What I think is funny is how many barefooted female models are depicted standing on their toes as if they are wearing invisible heels.
i guess if men wore high heels i'd pay more attention to their legs.
You know, I'd complain more about all the high heels... but at least it's better than all of the outfits that don't come with any shoes at all.
Very much so. Especially on cats.
paws in heels?
puss in boots ;\lol
I'm completely with you; whenever I look through my shoe library, I almost never use huge portions of it. It seems that the default for anything that comes with an outfit is high heels, with much of the rest being strappy sandals that also aren't exactly the most practical of shoe. I have only a very small number of characters who wear heels with any regularity.
By far the largest order I've done during the PC sale was the day they had the shoe sale, where I went in and cleared out nearly every sensible shoe for G8F in there.
Similarly, I was very glad to see the RSSY Cross Gender Clothing script pop up on the store; I've often done manual conversions of male clothing items, but being able to batch process things is very welcome.
That's because of all the high heeled pose presets out there. Finding pose sets that do both is rather rare. I like having the option when available and look for pose sets that do both, it certainly makes a set more versatile. And of course, yes I know we can alter poses ourselves, I do that every time. But it is really convenient when a set can offer both and save that bit of time it takes to fix them.
That IMO is what Daz Studio and its store is all about, saving time. After all, we could also create our own shoes, too if we wanted to.
Interesting perspective, I have never thought of it as saving time. I can totally understand the use DAZ assets or create your own distinction scenario, but for me you can drill down a bit further, or more specific, be creative or let DAZ do "all" the work. DS gives you many of the tools you can use to save time for yourself with presets and such. As such, i rarely purchase any of the addons that can do for you what DS can do if you do it yourself first. it's like the forum posts about is it Iray or not, well everything is Iray is you want it to be. Same for poses with heel feet or not, to me it's simple to adjust the feet either way and many heels come with a foot pose.
... too bad they didn't make those for G3 as well as several styles of boots. G8 may be "backwards compatible" with respect to using content from older generations, but not so much when using G8 content on older generations (particularly footwear which always tends to have issues with autofit).
...teachers, office drones,, kids, and senior citizens wear clothing like this?
...you'd likely see more men with twisted or broken ankles
...and if you were good at modelling which many like myself are not.
Don't forget the boots!

I keep hoping that F&D will make Genesis 3 versions of these, as trying to autofit the G8 ones to G3 is hit and miss.
As to the heels thing, just noting again that I regularly pass on outfits that I otherwise might buy if they have high heels. This applies mainly to fantasy and sci fi oriented outfits, but yeah I'm passing on several items each week still, due to the high heels thing. High heels have their place, but my library is already chock full of high heeled shoes and boots.
Most of the high heel products I end up with come from Pro bundles, and I've passed on a few pro bundles due to the plethora of high heels thing.
This is why I keep suggesting doing a low heels as well as a high heels version to vendors. Sure, you can try to fiddle with the heels yourself, but that takes extra time that could be being spent on your next render. Most won't bother though, but I'm still making said suggestion. If MY business is important to you, keep it in mind.
Vice versa, there are so many outfits I really admire for their design and the attention to detail but that have low necklines or high heeled boots ... both are difficult to balance. For some outfits, kitbashing the shoes might ruin the look of the outfit. And unlike cutouts, it is difficult to layer something beneath when it's only the neckline.
Fortunately we have had some nice fantasy outfits in the last months with low heel boots and no plunging necklines and cutouts. I appreciate this a lot that we have a choice.
