Is there rhyme or reason...

... to when a wishlist item gets a discount?  I'm not a PC memeber (I've enough of of a serious addiction) but wondering how, why, when an item will get it's price lowered.

    Just curious.

I'd say the only reasonably predictable discounts are around holidays - spooky or gothic items will often get a discount around Halloween, beach related items around summer, winter items around Christmas and the like; store wide discounts are often the case around 4th July and Thanksgiving.

All other discounts are fairly unpredictable - not surprising, but unpredictable. We know that a PA's back catalogue will usually be discounted when they release a new item, but without knowing when their next new release will comes out, we won't know when that's going to be.

Short version: If there is rhyme or reason, we don't know what it is. Only Daz does.

If you have the Daz Deals browser add-on, then you can get an idea of how often an item goes on sale.

It really depends on the artist and the size of their catalog.  In genereal, non PC+ DAZ originals can be counted on to go on sale every few weeks with mega-discount sales (65-70% off if you're a PC+ member) happening at least once every three months once they've passed the two months required to no longer be considered "new items."  Anything labeled Runtime DNA will go on sale under similar terms, whil the "big name" vendors like Stonemason, OutofTouch, Nikkisatez, Faveral, Zeddicus, tend to go on sale at least as often, though usually for less of a discount than the D.O.s or RDNAs.  Vendors with smaller catalogs and who haven't had any items co-branded as Daz Originals tend to take much longer between sales, with some of those catalogs only going on sale during the big PA sale.

It's mostly dark magic and sacred rituals...

DAZ shamans, sequestered in the sacred server room sacrifice a 3D goat and then using the virtual entrails, divine a numerical code which is enscribed into a clay tablet given to a young apprentice who must journey to the Seven of Eleven in the cave of sorrows in the distant valley of Baragorth where using but one, and only one quarter, defeat the foul wizard Mordroc and rescue the fair princess from the Dragon's Lair... or something like that... then, before they depart they must retrieve the ancient wiener of destiny from the rotisserie of despair... if they are brave and true, or do not decide to get a job somewhere less bizarre, they will return with the wiener and present it to Dave in accounting who will use a millennia old formula to convert the number of wrinkles and warts on the wiener into a numeric code... The codes are written down on a linen scroll which is taped to the Holy Capybara who then is sent off on his journey down the hall to Phil in marketing... where the codes are then translated into a list of product ID numbers for which items will go on sale...

It is a ritual filled with a rich history and tradition of magic and mystery, which has resulted in many items going on sale and lots of capybara poops being deposited in the hallway near accounting... but it works when it works and nobody know quite how or why.

    I suspected as much.
