Products fail to list other products used in Images
[Products fail to list other products used in Images] For example, I really like the hair used in this Product, but it does not list the name. I have now searched through hundreds of hair items and still failed to find it. The artist (s) who made it would I'm sure love to make an additional sale.
Renderosity generally has a listing of products used in the images. I requested DAZ3D to also do this several years ago, and they did, for a while, and then discontinued it. Too much work ? What was the reason ? I'm sure contributing Artists would like to have their work identified. So why can't we have this feature made available to users, who are prospective buyers, Right ? If anyone does not wish to know what clothing, hair, etc. is used just don't look at the list. Simple isn't it.
Can anyone identify it? I would like to buy it.

Thanks for you help.

Hello
This is the hair used in that promo image

That depends entirely on the vendor.
They didn't "discontinue it", it's simply up to the vendor, as it always was. Some products have promo items listed, some don't. There are many reasons a vendor may choose not to list them, and yes, the fact that it's a lot of work (especially if there are lots of promo images) in order to advertise other people's products can be one reason. Another can be that the content is simply not from the Daz store.
simple fix there...products sold here use other DAZ products... and they are listed as links in the other products used list.
Says the person who failed to list the clothing and hair used in the only image in his gallery ...
Not in the slightest.
The item may be:
- From a different store, which Daz will not promote.
- A free item from one of the several such content sites out there.
- An item that was not yet for sale when the product was put on the store.
- An item that was not intended for sale, and may have been crudely made only for that promo.
- An item that may have been heavily modified to the point that it is not helpful listing it as a product.
- In a promo image that was not done by the person submitting the product (these are often done by other artists).
- One of so many items in a promo that listing all of them for every different image would be both impractical and unhelpful.
- A combination of morphs the artist wants to use as their unique visual signature.
That's just not doable. At an extreme, that rules out any custom lighting, posing, render settings, etc, which obviously isn't desirable, which then means you then end up with subjective rulings about what kinds of non-Daz content is and isn't acceptable.
Also, ultimately, a few people occasionally not being able to find a product they want to buy is far more desirable to Daz than losing a PA (and thus hundreds or thousands of sales) by driving them away with draconian rules. (Which could quickly be a landslide as fewer and fewer products become valid for promos).
So you're saying that PAs sell here because they like the rules here more than the rules elsewhere?
I don't imagine so - I suspect most think the rules are more restrictive, but put up with them because of other perks of the store. However, there's still a breaking point; in the event that Daz did choose to impose a rule that promo images could only contain products available on the official Daz store and that all of those items must be tagged, I wouldn't be surprised to see some PAs move away because of the considerable extra hassle that resulted.
In the end, it's not unknown to see once prolific PAs pack up shop and move to other stores.
or lack thereof, or the different rules. If it was an easy thing for all the PAs to do, then it would be happening and DAZ forcing a PA to do so might drive them to other stores, especially if they were one of the PAs that never added the info on promo items for whatever reason and saw no reason to change until DAZ forced them to. I know if I became a PA i wouldn't be doing it for several reasons. I have been buying from DAZ for over 10 years and have asked about the products in a promo 3 or 4 times, yet you have some users that seem to ask daily. Makes me wonder if they took any time to try and find things themselves or just relied on others to do the work. I have answered quite a few looking for items and most of those i actually searched for which isn't hard if you know keys words to use in searches at both stores.
considering the fact this subject is brought up over and over, it would seem like a good thing for DAZ to help their customers and find a solution.
As far as not being able to use products from other stores, or even custom lighting and products, doesn;t that create a look of the new product that is not possible to obtain by the purchaser?
Perhaps it would be better if we get to see the true product we are deciding to buy or not.
These are promotional images; images to promote an item. They are not selling a kit, designed so that you can faithfully reproduce their promotional art. When you buy a car, you don't get the nice family inside it, or they vacation they take it on. Or, alternatively, a scantily-clad blonde is not included just because she's holding a beer can in the beer commercial. The art is to show the potential uses or effects of the product so you will be inspired to lustfully throw your money on the counter :-)
Listing other products is work that a PA does that doesn't directly help them sell their product. Work is a cost, so that also means lowering income by spending your time tracking down every product used.
Also many PAs use third parties to do promos, so that's another set of tasks. Also promos used can change over the process, so trying to make sure that's accurate is even more time and work.
Now, there are obviously indirect benefits to PAs listing this information. And hey, a lot of us do take the time (which is money!) because we like the market, for indirect benefits, or out of general professionalism.
But if I'm sitting here trying to get a product out and staring at a promo trying to remember where I got that candle in the background... I'm probably going to shrug and move on.
As the product that was sought has been identified, we are locking the thread as these discussions generally turn heated and the option to list products is available for merchants to use as they choose.
