Hand grip tool for 4.x ? Is there one? (solution found)

Okay, so DAZ 4.x killed off the old Hand Grip utility that I use to this day in my preserved 3.x installation. The question is what do people do in 4.x, apart from buy premade poses, or adjust joints individually? Is there a similar tool? So far searching has failed to locate anything.

I've only been using 4.x for a couple weeks, and have produced a total of about 4 completed renders with it.

What hand grip tool is this?

  • This was the product blurb. It worked on Daz 2 and 3.

Sometimes, the accurate positioning of the hands can add an extra degree of realism to your character graphics and animation.
Hand Grip is a posing and animation tool that provides a simple, yet flexible interface for posing either or both hands in a DAZ|Studio figure.
Hand Grip is a modal animation tool, meaning it is always available, and simply waiting for you to use it. Hand Grip does not interfere with the currently selected tool, or any other Studio controls. The Hand Grip control view can be dragged and docked just like any other view, so it can be conveniently placed to be available whenever you wish to pose or animate the hands of the figures in your scene.
Whenever a figure with hands and fingers is selected, you automatically have full use of Hand Grip through its control interface. You can easily pose the hands by using the radio buttons and sliders provided in the interface.
When a figure with fingers is selected, the control interface automatically becomes enabled, so that the hands can be easily posed without further selection or manipulation tools being required. Any part of a figure can be selected to enable Hand Grip. Depending on which part is selected, the appropriate hand will be selected for posing. By selecting any part of the left or right arm, the corresponding hand will be selected.
Note: This has been updated to work with DAZ Studio 3

Kind of sounds like the hand controls in Power Pose.

Is this a product or maybe a script by Casual (I know he has many handy ones)?

  • It was a product by GMCC Software a company that doesn't appear to exist anymore. That's a broken link, by the way.

If you bought it from Daz it might be in your Account Products list.

The old version is, but it won't work with Daz 4.xx, and research shows no newer version was made. I'm trying to find out if there is an equivalent.

The download is still available in the Account library as a direct download, but, as it is one of the many utilities that stopped working and were never fixed when 4.0 was introduced, it was never converted for DIM.  And yes, it was a very useful utility that has been missed.

As for a current replacement, mcasual's mcjhands script sorta does the same thing   https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts5/mcjhands , and, for the newer figures, Neikdian makes a set of three complementary products that are now DAZ Originals -  https://www.daz3d.com/hands-dial-up-for-genesis-3-male-and-female , https://www.daz3d.com/hands-dial-up-for-genesis-8-male and https://www.daz3d.com/hands-dial-up-for-genesis-8-female - which install new sets of parameter dials to move the hands to specific poses.

Was that an intentional pun? wink

Thank you. I will look these up.

  • Most of the Genesis figures have (or can have, it may require the morph sets) Pose Controls on body and hands that do more-or-less the same, from what I recall.

Richard is right you don't need it for the new gens they have the dials built in !

I must be looking in all the wrong places. There sure are a lot of wrong places to look!  Thanks.

I've checked all my gens and they have a lot of dials, but gripping isn't one of them.

Or select the hand and click on All in the parameters tab and scroll down. You can make the hand grip or just the fingers or the thumb grip, if you need a tigher grim the fist control will tighen the hold, anthough the thumb will be pushed into what is probably not the position you want it. Just using the fingers will tighten the grip.

  • Thanks all. I have found my way to it. I guess that is why there was no version of Hand Grip produced - it's effectively been integrated.
