Uninstall items

How do I uninstall items (characrters, clothes, etc) I no longer use from my library?

That can be easy if you install with DIM and haven't moved stuff around manually. You can select the content in DIM under the installed tab and click uninstall. Then you can remove the install packages in the ready to install tab by selecting them and right clicking for that option.

If you installed everything manually, then it's not so easy. If you have a zip copy of the files, you can look through it to see what and where everything is and then manually navigate to those files in your content library to remove them. That's going to be a long, tedious job if you have a lot to remove though.

I don't use Connect but I believe there's an automatic way to do it from within DS if you install content that way.

Right-click on the product, in the Products tab of Smart Content or the Products list in the Content Library, and select Uninstall.

Richard, When I follow your instructions I see "delete" is that the same as uninstall? and does that pruge all files related to the file I am deleting from the product page?

No, assuming ti was the product and not oen of its files you right-clicked Delete will remove the metadata (until DS logs on again).

ZI guess I'm not understanding the original instructions. How do I get the uninstall pane?

So you install your content inside DS with Connect? In that case, open the smart content tab and look at the top left above the list of the content folders there. You should see a tab labeled Products. When you click that, you should see a list of the products you have installed. It kind of looks like a store page. If you right click on one, do you see an uninstall option?

If you originally installed with DIM, then you need to use DIM to uninstall. If you originally used Connect to install then you need to use Connect to uninstall. If you installed manually....Houston, we have a problem....

If you installed manually, you'll have to call up every product page and/or find the readme for every product you want to get rid of and find each and every file associated for that item and delete it.

I dunno of any other ways to do it. If someone does, then hopefully they'll chime in.

Side note, if anybody went the manual install route:  to avoid this exact problem with manual installs, I install each content item into it's own folder.  Uninstall just means deleting the folder and done (or followed by a reinstall if I'm installing a fixed version or restoring a damaged folder.), and of course you'll have missing content thumbnails to purge from your content library if permanently uninstalling  This is not without it's downsides though, it can break some things and affects DS startup speed.

I've taken to using DIM to install even Rendo content with the Content Package Assist, and one of the reasons is the ease of uninstalling.
