I'm still working on it, but the massive response to the 4.12 Studio release appears to be causing the interconnects (load balancers, switches, high-availability heartbeat systems) to have difficulty coping. I've been adjusting various knobs and dials and changing up how some code on the backend is being called and that clears things up for a while but then something else pops up as the slow part that is backing things up.
All the end systems have plenty of extra capacity, but any time something backs up on a request it triggers a little cascade of backing up that seems to rapidly cause some internal traffic jams. I've found and fixed a couple of sticky bits, so it should keep getting better.
Bad Math? What's wrong with this picture?
Since yesterday the shop, Daz Connect and DIM are unstable.
Thanks for keeping after it. The level of response of frustrated and desperate customers shows you how much we rely on you!
I guess that's a measure of success.
"How popular was Studio 4.12? Let me tell you -- it was so popular that it brought down our entire web infrastructure!"
And there was me thinking that that was pretty much the whole point of Cloudflare .. as in NOT bringing down web services on high demand on downloads, etc.
Just checked - cannot authenticate inside DIM nor DSPro 4.12 . I can work offline. That's about it. But obviously could log in to post this forum message.
Why is this giving me flashbacks to the factory scene in the old silent b/w movie Metropolis? Good luck avoiding the minion-shattering kaboom...
I think I'll wait a while too until I download 4.12 — there's no rush, I can't really use the new features until I get my long-awaited computer upgrade.
..think I'll just wait a bit and let things calm down (hopefully before the PC Anniversary sale kicks in). I have the 4.12 Beta, it works fine for my needs for now.
I never, ever go to the premiere of a new cinema release but wait a couple weeks and go to a matinee (or sometimes even months when it hits a second run theatre) because of the long lines and usually higher admission price.
Quick lesson in DAZ math:
Subtotal: $38,90 = $18,95 (Bentley full price) + $19,95 (Adria full price)
Discount: $13,97 = the normal price of Adria after store discount but since she's currently free for some customers the remaining is subtracted as well as general discount
Grand total: $11,37 = what's left is the discounted price of Bentley
Ah, DAZ math! I knew there was an explanation somewhere.
I wanna' see the algorithm that writes that invoice page.
Somebody left out a line.
..I'll stick to Abstract Algebra, makes more sense.
Had no trouble shopping earlier. However, DIM has trouble signing in, takes a few attempts to succeed. Trying to download my new aquisitions, and it seems the download just won't start. After a while DIM throws some disconnection error. Going to Account and trying to sign in again that way doesn't work (sign in button just doesn't respond). So, closing DIM, wait a few minutes, go to task manager to close DIM the crude way, restart DIM and make another attempt.
When 4.12 launched, I was able to update or install a lot of things through DIM... except for the official 4.12 release, probably because the calls for that were so backed up. (I have the 4.12 release now.)
DIM is okay for me, but I could be closer to the magic boxes where the internet routing goes.
The Daz web site loads OK for me, but DIM cannot connect and I cannot log in to my account through the application. Frustrating!
I had a couple of issues with cloudflare errors with the order I placed earlier this morning, but I still managed to download everything eventually. It took me about 2 hours or so total due to lower than usual download speeds, around the 50-150 mb/sec range. I'm doing manual downloads BTW. This time around I simply just hit the download button a second time, and the link for the download eventually came up. Those links are taking longer to pop up at the moment, but at least they do pop up.
It helped that most of the stuff in this order was older Genesis stuff, which is usually much smaller in size MB wise as compared to say Genesis 8 stuff...
Much better than the order I placed on Wednesday. It took 33 hours to finally download everything in that order, due to the multi-hour downtime with the cloudflare errors. Things finally cleared up late yesterday afternoon Daz time, and I was finally able to download the Male Apesuit textures (over 800MB download) and the two pro bundles in my order.
Hopefully we don't see that level of outages on the download servers again.
They hopefully dusted those lava lamps off at cloudflare now too for their weekly maintenance...
I was able to finally download previous purchases last night, but not 4.12. Retried 4.12 this morning before leaving for work and it worked without a hitch.
Cloudflare's great when you need to serve the same content to everyone. But authentication and personalization is the stuff that Cloudflare can't optimize, because each transaction is unique to one user. I'm sure that the actual downloads of DS were served by Cloudflare or another CDN, and benefited accordingly, but the process of determining who has access to what will always have to go through to DAZ's back-end servers, and evidently they were struggling.
I get 70 KB/s speed when downloading from product library instead of my usual 600+ KB/s
edit:
weird, now it seems OK again
edit:
or NOT... speed is bad again
I am getting between 7.5 and 8 Mb/s
Hm, i see. Weird, i checked other sites, they dont have such low speed, so i ve no idea if its my isp or else.
edit
now its 25 kb/s
have you tried rebooting your router? If my speed drops it's the first thing I try, as my ISP has a habit of working on things overnight or at weekends and that can really mess up speeds till I reboot.
But i have normal speed outside of daz site (just tried installing WorldCreator in steam, was getting almost full speed)...
I ll try later, if it still will be that.
Same for me. Download speed around 50kbits/s presently while normal speed is around 5MB/s normally...All other sites work well.
I have to admit I was using manual download.
? And i speak of that one, i dont use DIM for bryce products
EDIT:
Finally, seems to be working OK now
