Have the latest edition of Studio.
For the past couple of releases, carrying over to this one, have had a few problems
that I have either ignored or developed a workaround.
Surface tab shows nothing, problems witht content showing up etc.
Have all the latest figures, bunch of shaders etc.
Over 50gb of DAZ Content alone.
Would like to uninstall and reinstall the main program.

In addition to the main program itself, what also should be installed.
( Genesis, etc)
Thank you

Is it the presets tab of the Surfaces pane that's empty, not the Edit tab (with an item selected)? Are you able to find your content if you use the Content Library pane, looking under DAZ Studio Formats or Poser Formats? If the answers to both are yes it sounds like a corrupt Content Management Service database - or a stopped CMS. What operating system are you using?

Hi I'm Dean and am also a newcomer to Daz. I have experienced the same problem but after a few tutorials have come to realize I have made a couple hasty mistakes. One while following the correct path mind you I loaded in Daz compatible products from ShareCG and Renderosity that aren't recognised by DIM. They appear in content library but are non functional. After much research I found these must be manually input but to remove them now is labour intensive. As I have just started I think the best way to fix this is to uninstall Daz (which is the 1.7 version) and reinstall the upto date 1.8 version clean. The last time I tried a reinstall in put all the corrupted content back in so I think this the only way, start from square one which I don't mind doing at this point. Would you agree with approach ?

Re-installing Studio won't fix content problems, you have to have the libraries set up properly.

Does deleting the content from inside Daz get rid of them? Also is there a update function to Daz 4.6 ?

Deleting from IN DAZ Studio is a True delete. But it only removes the USER side files. It does not remove the DATA side files the Program calls from the USER icons. The DIM uninstall removes a File package fully, data and all. The DIM also has the UPDATE feature. When a file you have installed with DIM gets a version update the Updated File or Files list in the DIM automatically and does a proper uninstall of the older version at the time you install the Update.

Thank you for your answers I am grateful for the info. Was I right to assume that outside downloads from Daz homesite should be manually installed though ? Again I thank you for your time.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Out Side downloads? If you mean downloaded from WORK or something like that you use DIM to Download only then MOVE those files to your main PC put them in the DIM downloads folder and install. That would keep your content updated on your home PC. The DIM would then have the install record and check for updates to that file from home.

Do you mean Content bought from other stores or sites?

DIM only works with content that is bought in the store here, on the DAZ 3D site. Any other content you need to install yourself. Most content comes with a readme file to tell you where everything goes or how to install it.

Have spent days on these issues.
In the Surfaces Tab, the preset shows nothing.
In the content library because of the amount of Content ( both Poser and DAZ) I select the section
it is blank. I go have lunch come back and most of the time it now appears.
Have uninstalled, installed DAZ Content Manager.
In the Task services it always shows running.
Only thing left is a total uninstall and reinstall.
    But
Do not wish to touch the base files.
Features like Gensis etc depend on certain files being installed.
So much has been installed that depends on certain things being present it would be a nightmare.
Recent installation of Michael 6 is an example.
Hours spent trying to get figure to appear, error messages, turns out you had to update Genesis, first .
    So
If I uninstall the main DAZ Program and reinstall, Michael 6 will not work again.
    So
What programs do I have to reinstall along with DAZ itself.
Thank you ( forgive me, am starting to talk to myself)

Reinstalling DS4.6 does not affect content at all, it only reinstalls the program itself.

In the content library because of the amount of Content ( both Poser and DAZ) I select the section
it is blank. I go have lunch come back and most of the time it now appears.

I have around 2,000 items installed, and the content loads almost immediately, so there is something else going on here.

Recent installation of Michael 6 is an example.
Hours spent trying to get figure to appear, error messages, turns out you had to update Genesis, first .

Michael 6 is a morph of Genesis 2, so you must have Genesis 2 installed first. Genesis 2 Starter Essentials is free and should appear in your My Account > Product Library area.

If I uninstall the main DAZ Program and reinstall, Michael 6 will not work again.

Yes M6 will work, as already stated, reinstalling DS does not affect your content.

What programs do I have to reinstall along with DAZ itself.

Just DAZ Studio, if you already have Genesis, Genesis 2 and the free Default Lights and Shaders for DAZ Studio already installed.

Much, much more. have been collecting this stuff for years.
Over 25 Runtimes all connect to DAZ ( originaly Poser)
Installation programs alone, take over 1TB

    Thank you, got the idea.
Forgot that things like Genesis Essential went into Library, not program
    itself.

    Large Coincidence,
    Just today.
Because of a corrupted usb fle will have to format one of the
computers and do reinstall in any case.
Glad I asked the question Will update this thread if fixed.
    Thanks again

    Update.
    Had to format a computer.
Brand new installation of DAZ Studio.
No links yet to any Poser Runtime folder.
    Straight DAZ Runtime.
    Task>Services>DaZ Content Manager> Running
Content loads ok (not much to speak of yet).
The Preset tab of the Surfaces section still shows .......... nothing.?
    Michael 6 did load.

Did you copy over an existing content folder, or did you install it fresh, and if so how?

You need to go to Content Library > options (the rectangle with horizontal lines in the upper corner) > Content DB Maintenance > Re-Import Metadata
