Distortion caused after Transfer Utility the dress to G8F

Hello everyone,

Here's the problem:

This dress I made in MD and imported it in Daz as .obj > then Transfer Utility to fit G8F > Mesh distortion appears when I play the catwalk animation.

I tried to get myself understand the older discussions with similar topics but seems we cannot use a particular solution to fix and it really case by case.

Anyone experts can give me some advice?

Thank you so much!

  • I suspect it's mainly  amatter of editing the weight maps - certainly on the skirt portion you would improve it my smoothing the trasnition between the two legs. However, since the dress was created in MD it should be usable with dForce - with or without rigging.

  • The Transfer Utility only provides very basic weight rigging, by copying weights from the nearest vertices on the master mesh. This can cause problems with very unsmooth weight rigging around areas where there's a lot of different mesh weights close to each other - between the legs and under the arms are particular culprits, but yes, the breast area is also frequently a problem.

You will need to do some manual weight painting in these areas to smooth them out, and quite possibly corrective morphs as well.

Another possible solution, if the mesh is suitable for dForce, is to implement that as well; good dForce simulation can work wonders for things where conventional rigging can be pretty limited.

  • Thanks to Richard and Matt giving advice! Makes me understand the core concept behind.

I will try to use the "Smoothing Modifier" for smoothing the distorted parts. (Please correct me if it's not the correct tool I should use)

Thus, I did try dForce with simulation setting that I learned from this tutorial:

I can make the dress draping on G8F and the drape will follow how she poses and the result is perfect!

However, when I applied the same in a G8F who animated with a cat walking motion in repeat, the dress can only follow her from "A-pose" to a style pose. The drape was not following the whole motion.

It's complicated to explain but I hope you know what I mean.

I can explain more with if you both need. Thank you so much!!
