It's a bug, it's been reported but AFAIK it hasn't been addressed mostly because it's really tricky to locate.
Thanks for reporting it happening on Windows too (I've reported it on Mac OS X), but if it is a "common bug" it might be easier for the developers to track it down.

Whenever I accidentally hit both mouse buttons at the same time then this problem occurs, I'm on Windows 7 32bit by the way.

I noticed this problem as well, and it always seemed to manifest itself when I was busy with zooming in or out, later I discovered that it happened whenever I tried to switch between using the right ("fast" zoom) or left mouse button, and then noticed that I often tended to hit both buttons at the same time.

Right now I can reproduce the problem with ease: highlight one of the view controls in the upper right corner (rotate or zoom) and when it's selected (orange) hit both mouse buttons. That always hides the mouse for me.

But you can also get it back, though it isn't easy. Highlight the upwards pointing arrow (the round "reset view" icon) and click that. Then your mouse button should return (at least it does so over here).

Unfortunately it seems to be the combination of clicking and resetting the camera view, because using the default keyboard shortcut (control-alt-r) only resets the camera without getting your mouse back.

These days I try to avoid clicking both buttons at the same time.

Disappearing cursor - mouse pointer going poof?
On my PC when pointer goes “poof”, I manouver (invisible) it to “Viewport options” top right hand corner of viewport and left click, it re-appears.

By the way: I have the disappearing cursor with my wacom tablet - no way I am clicking both buttons at the same time.

Kerya, I tried your method the last time it happened and it doesn't work for me, neither does resetting the view with a click.

The invisibility cloak descends on my pointer when I'm dragging in parameters or camera controls.

I'm pretty confident the nuances of the problem depend on the video card.

I found that my Wacom tablet was causing very similar effects (vanishing cursor) in DS4, which was most likely errors with old Wacom tablet driver. I switched to my Microsoft wireless mouse, and the problem seem to go away. Old tablets and peripherals are prone to cause issues when updating software.

...I've had it occur as far back as Daz ver 1.8.

Yeah but it disappeared for years for me and through a couple different PC's and video cards, just showed up again recently and it was a full year after I got this latest pc.

Yes, this is a common bug. I tend to agree with how it occurs that it's while zooming or generally manipulating the scene and then moving into the parameters tab. I just generally say eff with it and save the scene to reboot DS rather than try to make the mouse pointer appear again (which is a crapshoot in making it work).

In 4.1.6.17 and earlier it sometimes goes into "busy" mode here (showing an hourglass besides the arrow) and stays there. Last time I found out how to get it back to normal again, but don't recall how, unfortunately. Not sure what triggers it. Wonder if the two things are related.

...I was experiencing that too, usually after a render was cancelled. One time I let it go to see if it was just clearing memory but it persisted for nearly twenty minutes. Ended up having to shut the application down to get it to stop.

Haven't seen it occur with 4.6.1.33 (yet).

Thanks did just happen and... I am happy I got it back... and yeah I was playing around with the camera :/

The times I've gotten hidden mouse ptr has mostly been when running DS via VNC (been on one place then opening a scene for rendering somewhere else).
