Scaling images in posts

Doc AcmeDoc Acme Posts: 1,153

I know this has probably been asked at least 1,024 times already, but since there isn't an F.A.Q., what is the correct way to scale images in posts?  Simply dragging the attachment into the message area, then dragging a corner gives a horribly aliased result.

And am I going to feel horribly stupid when I find out?

Tnx

I either just put in an attachment that opens in a new window, or else host the image on Imgur and use the add image tool and that lets you adjust the size at which your image appears.

If you look when you are making your post, there is an "Image" icon in the top row towards the middle of the controls to format the post. I always add my images through here, but if you have an image already in the post, select it, and click on Image to open the controls. You get a variety of control options. Setting the size here can also allow you to lock the proportions.

I am not sure if that is an option on mobile, I've never tried to add an image to a post on mobile.

Step 1) Attach the image to the post using the "Attach File" link at the bottom
Step 2) Post the Comment with the image
Step 3) Got to Edit to Edit the post (The Cog Wheel I believe)
Step 4) Hover over the attachment and you will see a link that is the title of your image. Right click it and select Open Link in New Tab
Step 5) Copy the URL from that tab to your image
Step 6) In the Toolbar above (that has Bold and Italics and all that) Select the Image Icon
Step 7) Where it says URL, paste the URL you copied
Step 8) It will fill in the dimensions of your image for you...change where it says Width to 800 (Max forum size) and it will adjust the other dimension for you
Step 9) Click ok and your image will be in the post at the right size

It sounds more complicated than it is but I wanted to be sure I put all the steps in so it was hopefully easy to follow. There is a FAQ somewhere around but IDK if that is still stickied.

If your image is posted to the Gallery all ready then you can skip Steps 1 - 4 and just copy the URL for the image itself from the Gallery.

Should be something straight forward & native to the forum I'd think, but maybe that's how others are doing it..

    Step 3)

    with a thumbnail.

Until I clicked the Quote button to reply.  Then I got the entire reply.  Got it copied off

I was still editing the steps...(sorry about that - I was doing it as I typed it) All the steps should be there now. That said, I just did a video (which I think makes it easier than the written steps)

No speaking though on the video as I feel I sound 12 ROFL. Ill post it here in a second smiley

OK here is the quick video..I can redo it with speaking if you need me to.

The last part of the video where I go to the Link tab isn't really necessary but it will make it so people can click the image and see the full original size in a new window.

Let me know if you have any questions smileyheart

Wow.  No, there's absolutely nothing convoluted about that process at all. at all! cheeky  I'll give it a try in a few days perhaps.

Thanks for doing that though.  I'm sure it'll get a ton of hits over the years as the question pops up now an again.  And it will.

And there is audio technology these days, but the vid was succinct w/o.
