render ready scenes are dark in scene view / but render correctly

I have a strange problem. If I load render ready scenes from I13 for example the scene is completely dark in the viewport. I can only see something if I switch on the headlamp or when I add an own key light. The point lights don't emit light in the scene view.

But it renders correctly.

Is that normal? Do I have to press some button?

Thanks

I had that issue with that same set.  If you press Ctrl-L you turn on the Preview Lights feature.  That's enough light for posing, etc.  You can also turn it on with the menu from the hamburger icon above the top right corner of the preview pane.

    Thanks.

Strangely turning off the preview lights worked. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

To turn off Preview Lights - it's on (trying to preview the lighting) by default, the first time you hit the command it is turned off (unchecked in the emnu) and you get a headlamp instead of the preview.

But where comes the light from in my case then? I turned off the preview lights and also the headlamp as one can see in the last screenshot.

@ps2000 "But where comes the light from in my case then?"

If the lights in the scene are emissive lights, which is likely, they won't show in the viewport, but will render.

But I mean the light in the viewport now. There is now light in the viewport after turning off the preview lights and the headlamp (see screenshot).

    Where does that come from?

  • The "light" in the viewport is a kind of simulation. It partly shows you how your lights affect the scene unless you're doing full Iray shading, which isn't recommended for most people's systems.

By removing this "light", the Viewport will just show you the texture shading (or whatever you've set the viewport to). It's a more basic way to view your scene. It's not that Daz is "illuminating" the scene for you. It's the opposite... it shows you the scene without bothering to apply a light to anything.

    Ok. Thanks.

    Good to know.

    That really had me confused.
