i can still spot a Vicki 4 render.
i can't spot Vicki 8 in a render, unless a description says it's her.
mebbe it's the lack of purple bikini

Well, for one thing Victoria 8 isn't the base figure - Genesis 8 Female is.
Not if you are using Simple Details or Perfect V4
...and what are those?
Probably, but that's because all the Genesis figures aren't built off of Victoria, but off of the base Genesis figure.
I've only been doing 3D art for about 3 years, so I wasn't around for the days that Victoria 4 was the base figure. By the time I got here, there was already Genesis 1 as the base figure, Genesis 2 as the base figure, and Genesis 3 as the base figure. To this day though you still get people who think that all of the Genesis 8 figures are built off of Victoria 8. lol Victoria has only been a morph of the base figure since Genesis 1, not the base figure herself. She and Michael are still the flagship figures though.
I see more "raw Genesis 8" renders then I do of Victoria 8 - I'm sure if Victoria 8 was the first thing that pops up when you load the base figure, we'd see more V8 renders.
I'm sure Vicky is happy for the company and not having to do all the heavy lifting anymore. The model making and rendering community is a lot bigger than when Victoria and Michael first made their appearances. It's only normal that there would be more diversity. I still think that Victoria is the first among equals, though.
I've been around for a while and have to admit I've never done an actual "artistic" render with V4. M4 I still use on a regular basis. The Gen4 skins is a different matter, I think many of them are really gorgeous. Hmm also have to admit some of them are terrible, oh well...personal preference etc.
i can't spot a G8F render either.
I don't think, oh, That's daz's G8F figure. lol
after seeing the dinosaur on youtube half a thousand times, i can be like, oh that's daz's dinosaur.
I can spot a G8F base render easily, a little less easily the G8M, but not any of the DAZ 3D Core characters for Genesis 8
Special smoothing injections and fixes for V4. They are pretty awesome - one even provides details like real ribs, knuckles, etc.
Has Victoria lost her iconic status?
Yes, no question.
This is largely due to G8F being the base figure, and Victoria is only one of many figure options. And not the most attractive/interesting/best at that. Many PA's have got very skilled at modelling up other characters, and possibly the available tools are better, so there is a great deal more variety of character available than there used to be.
as @Misselthwaite said
Available at the other store.
Tks
...I remember when all we had for a "realistic" female figure was V4. I remember spending months, years, trying to create a Gen4 teen, pre-teen, and child (before K4) from V4 for my stories. Then S4 and K4 came along near the end which made it a little easier (though the Figure Mixer was a real drain on system resources, particularly if you were working in 32 bit).
My opinion is that whichever character is released first with a new generation is going to be the most popular or 'the iconic'.
I'm not a fan of the Gia series; Gia 8 is the only one I have, which is purely because of price (might have been free). If Gia 8 was released first with a new Genesis version, I'd buy.
Unless you're talking about specifically base V4 with little to no morphing, then as most have said, the fair comparison would be to G8F.
And as it happens, I do use (mostly) base G8F far more frequently than I use base V4. And that is talking in comparison to the rest of the generation - no, I generally don't use Gen4 much, but I'm unlikely to use V4 specifically. In comparison, "Jinx" is one of my most used G8F characters and, other than a couple of slight morphs (and some elf ears), her head shape is pretty close to base G8F. Under a different texture set, the same shape can be really hard to recognise.
..here's an example of what I did with V4
Actually I was getting pretty tired of seeing "iconic" figures. Particularly Micheal 4. "Iconic" doesn't necissarily translate to "Good". The Edsel is pretty iconic for examle....
...as was the Yugo, but for different reasons than appearance.
Of course, Iconic, suggests easily recognisable.
If I'm creating art or trying to create it, I don't want the main character (or even ancillary charcters) being easily recognised.
Dork is upset. What is all this talk about Vicki being the icon.
OK, Mr. DeMlle, Posette is ready for her closeup.
