New PC can't find Genesis 8 dsf (Solved)

So... as the title says, I installed Studio on a new PC and am having a bit of trouble. Whenever I load any Gen 8 female I get a warning about not being able to find "studio/my library/people/genesis 8 female/characters/genesis8female.dsf", even though they load in fine and are fully functional.

From my understanding there shouldn't even be a dsf file in the characters folder, those are in the data folder, as the actual morphs, right?

I tried copying that dsf file into genesis 8 female/characters and still get the error.

Not sure if it's because I have daz pointing to a different location for my assets, which I've done on my PCs, and not had this issue, in fact, shouldn't she not even be able to load correctly if she didn't have the morph?

Time for a clean install maybe?

  • It looks as if DS thinks the product was installed via Connect - there's no download available icon in top corner of the main thumbnail - but the path given is for a DIM install. How did you install?

  • I have this same issue.  The only way I can get rid of the error was to completely blow away EVERYTHING.  CMS/Studio and everything.  I then incrementally load it all back.  It looks like a package I got from renderosilty changes something.  I've fixed it twice by this ridiculously overkill method... but reinstalling from the manager doesn't fix it.  Taking out everything except studio and just restoring genesis 8 essentials doesn't fix it either.

I do notice there are two versions of this file:

    genesis8female.dsf  (all lower case) 614kb

Genesis8Female.dsf (note case diff)  3.44 Mb

This is a really fricking annoying issue.  The error dialogue is zero help.  To further confuse matters the path listed isn't the actual path to the public documents/My DAZ 3D Library ... and the studio <-- WTH is that about.

  • I believe I discovered the issue.

It was a morph add-on that was installing some stuff under data/DAZ3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs

I double verified that if I removed sub (in my case Felldude breast morphs) the problem went away.

  • I was having this issue and using extreme measures to fix it.  (Uninstalling and reinstalling).

I discovered it was a morph addon causing it under the My DAZ 3D Library/data  tree.

Specificially for me it was in data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Female/Morphs/Felldude   <-- I removed this and the problem went away.

I double checked removing it... fixed... put it back... broken... remove ... fixed... HOLY GUACAMOLE!  Grrrrrr.

  • Yep, that was it. Those morphs were the culprit. Must have saved something worng when Felldude made those. Funny thing is, that it was fine on my old PC, I swapped the drive to this new one, that's why I thought it may have been something I did.

  • The problem is file Big Nips.dsf. In line 18 "parent" : "/studio/my library/people/genesis%208%20female/characters/genesis8female.dsf" is called insted of "parent" : "/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf#geometry",

Change this line to  "parent" : "/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf#geometry", and it will work again.

  • Ditto, same problem and same source. 3rd party content Felldude. Solved by deleting content.

Thank you so much! That fix did it for me! Used Notepad++ to open the file and there it was! Just changed that line and all is well! Finally I can use Batch render again!

can I ask how you realized it was the Felldude content causing the problem?  I'm having the same issue, but I don't have any content from Felldude installed.

it seems to happen on some scene files and not others, even though they contain the same characters/assets.

    any pointers appreciated.
