Eleanor HD For Genesis 8 Female no eye reflection?

davesodaveso Posts: 7,811

the promo images all show beautiful eye reflection and clear eyes. My renders have no reflection using lights that normally have a lot.
Not sure if there is a setting or something that needs changing with the eyes?

In Iray you have to have a light source shining in the eyes to get reflections. The lights themselves do not "normally have" reflections.

Here's a quick partial render to show Eleanor with eye reflections. Render Studio 2 w/ 1 key and my added fill.

    @daveso

Here's a capture of the lighting setup.

I usually have a three points light setup for portraits.

To get a strong eye glint, I usually creat a spot light in front of the figure. In the Parameter settings>General>Misc>Point At  Figure's Head
Then in the Parameter settings>Light>Illumiation : Specular Only

FWIW, I can't see a difference in quality or render time with spectral lighting and Render Settings>Spectral>ON or normal spotlights and Render Settings>Spectral>Off.

thanks..yeah...I'm using Colm's HDR lights which usually give eye reflections ...

    From product description --

    "No '3D' lights are required.

All the HDR's in this package will provide you with the best specularity and eye reflections that can be achieved in Daz Studio and will render incredibly fast with an Nvidia graphics card."

Question (because I don't have the character): did you try turning on/up the cornea bulge morph? Eyes look flat to me unless I push the cornea bulge up to 100 (or even more sometimes).

I'm going to post some screenshot with the Colm Pro Studio Hdr Lighthing System.
    HDR Light 01 L

This is HDR Light 01 L, This is the only light source and as you can see it produced a slight glint on the right upper corners

HDR Light 01 L with eyeglint light

This is the same HDR light. I added an additional light source to add an 'artificial' light glint.

    HDR Light 20 L

this is HDR Light 20 L as you can see, you hardly see any glint.

HDR Light 20 L with eyeglint light

This is the same HDR Light 20 L but with the 'eyeglint' light.

Againt, I artificially added the glint.

I'm not saying or encouraging you to add the artificial lights to get the eye glint, but if done right, it can enhanced the image a little.
The second one as you can see, the additional light was too strong and took away the intended shadows, on the fourth image, I dialed down the luminance and most of the intended shadows were retained.

Most light packages out there are a tool to get you started on a scene. Most of the work are already done for you. You still have to tweak and dial a little to get the render you want.

    Cheers

thank you .. that is most interesting. I dont remember which light I had selected. I did add a specular light on another image, of course that worked.
Also, it changes depending on if you rotate the character after the lights are added... which is for sure on one of the images.

Thanks ..I was wondering about thaqt. One of the things I've notice is that it looks like the eyes have a grayish film over them ... I will try the corneal bulge thing.
