Right now I use wacom intuos, but only because it was a gift. My advice is to go with a huion, unless you are really into painting, and want to pay an extra 80 or so for the artpen. The artpen is awesome for painting, it tracks brush rotation, something no other art tablet pen can do as far as I know. Before I was gifted a wacom, huion served me fine for years. I cannot tell any difference between using a huion and wacom with the pen the wacom comes with. A trick I use to battle the nib wearout problem, and also keep the drawing area of my tablet from getting scratched, I tape a piece of tracing paper over the drawing surface, the tracing paper lets through the light that shows you the drawing area. I change the tracing paper every few months when it starts to wrinkle, but that takes like 2 minutes, so not a big deal. Been using the same nib for over a year now, so I think it works well.

That is a nice solution, with the tracing paper.

So far, I've ruled out the Wacom Intuos Pro - too many user complaints about its rough surface wearing out pen nibs within a few weeks.

On the other hand, you'll see Wacom users complain that the Huion surface is too smooth!

some texture is good unless you used to painting on glass or similar surface. What would be cool is if it were possible to change the surface with a transparent overlay ... canvas, paper, card stock, etc etc.

I used to do that too. I used regular paper though, tried various until I liked the feel with the nib. There's also a softer replacement surface available from Wacom, never tried it but will probably help with pen wear too.

I use a screen protector called "Like Paper" on my iPad pro, and it has made a big difference.  Before, it was hard to write on the glass surface and my writing was illegible.  Drawing was harder too.  Now the surface has texture and less glare.  Works very well.  I tried a cheaper brand and it did not work as well for me.

Interesting. I did not know about pen wear. I got some replacement tips with Wacom Bamboo, but have not used any of them, yet.

I have recently watched the documentary about the fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld.

He was showed up sketching with the markers about his life.

He was wearing gloves on both of his hands.
