Cartoon Eyes for Cartoonized?
This is more a curiosityof mine. I'm using Cartoonized for G8 Male for some 'chibi-lite' character proportions, but when it comes to materials and shading, I'm i a rut.
I use Visual Style Shaders for the toon shading effect on skin and textures, but they don't seem well-suitded for dealing with eyes - or at least default Genesis 8 eyes. From what I can tell, Sakura 8 may be the only figure that comes with eyes that would complement this kind of shading, but 1) It's more anime-styled than what I'm shooting for, and 2) is a girl. I'm not 100% clear on it, but I think Sakura has separate Eye objects that can only work with her.
So what I'm wondering is, are there any packs I can turn to for very simple, not overly-detailed eye textures for cartoon characters? Something that would work on the Genesis 8 eyes (I'm assuming eye textures are a gender-neutral kind of thing). And also, what are some of the tricks of the trade, for making eyes that look more appropriate for toon styles? I'mstill using 3Delight, so a lot of the fancier Iray features may not be applicable.

There are a couple more options I'm aware of for cartoon style eyes. @Divamakeup's Diva Remix - Toons for Tika 8 works on the base Genesis 8 figure and has toon textures for the eyes. If you have any toon figures you like, you can definitely use those materials on any character of the same base. The only exception might be Sakura 8 since she has special eye morphs. I believe you would have to use Sakura as a the base character to start with. I can't recall if you can just dial in her eyes. If you do use Sakura 8, Sakura Eyes for Sakura 8 by by @3dOutlaw is an awesome add-on to Sakura eye textures. They go a step more than just textures and improves the orginal eyes in my opinion.
Manga Marker Materials for Genesis 8 by @Canary3d has some good toonish/manga style eye colors. It's a great product to use whether you do manga or regular toons.
This one is on my wishlist, Dark Anime Eyes & Lashes for Genesis 8, but I don't know how good it is yet since I don't have it.
If you have UV Swap for Genesis 8 by @Slosh, you can swap textures between the male and female. I don't think there's much difference in color or look between male and female characters with cartoons. Maybe not even between regular characters because I've swapped eyes colors between characters and they've looked fine.
It's very disappointing that there aren't any eye products geared specifically toward the male character. I've tried doing my own eye textures with some success. I can't spend as much time on the project as I'd like. The following tutorials might help you with eye textures and how to create them if you decide to try to create your own. The first one focuses on realistic textures, but you can modify the steps easily enough for toons.

In both instances, you'll need to use a template for the eyes so everything fits. The easiest way is to download the template in the starter essentials for the figure for whom you plan to make eye textures. You can find this in your product library as it comes free with Daz Studio. You want the one that looks like four circles. One set of circles is for the front of the eyes and one is for the back. You just need to make sure your textures fit the template. You can go outside the outer edges a little because anything outside the template won't show. That way you make sure you don't end up with any gaps. It's not that difficult to create your own textures in either GIMP or Photoshop or the 2D program of your choice.
I hope this helps.
Also, a simpler solution to the problem that Sakura is a girl: https://www.daz3d.com/sasuke-for-sakura-8
Yep, I forgot about that one. Best purchase I ever made because he helped me with a project I couldn't do without him. :)
Wouldn't Sasuke be limited to wearing clothes that were designed for females, though? I've actually never tried cross-dressing with the Genesis figures, but if it's possible, it could come in real handy (You don't wanna know how long I've been searching for the right pair of 'adventurer boots', thinking I've found it only to see, "Oh wait, those are high-heel boots.")
But in the grand scheme, I don't think I'd have much use for Sakura. I'm aiming for a style that's closer to Paige and Pace, but without being Paige and Pace. (Maybe they have eyes I could use).
As for texture swapping...is a separate utility necessary? Wouldn't it just be a matter of replacing the diffuse/bump/specular/etc maps in the surfaces tab? Or is it one of those weird cases where G8M eye UVs are dramatically different from G8F eye UVs?
Thank you for the shout out, Knittingmommy! And for the recommendation of Toons for Tika 8! :D
This is a bit OT, but do G8 male and female characters have different eye geometry?
I was wondering this too, and I think they're the same. I loaded up Darius 8, gave him some 3Delight eye material from the content library, then went into my G8F folder and tried out Mabel's eyes, and they seemed to work fine. I was even surprised to see that I could load the material directly from the content panel, without DS yelling at me for using an unrecognized figure. I thought for sure that I would have to go in and load all of the maps manually, but it looks like eye materials are gender-neutral. At least, for the figures that don't include their own custom eyes.
I may have to take a look at these custom Sakura 8 eyes. If they work fine for standard G7F eyes, then it'd stand to reason I could use them on G8M as well.
I think I like the look of the ones from Toon Hero for Genesis 8 Male the most - but since I already have body shapes and toon skin shaders in place, I really couldn't consider buying the whole thing just for the eyes. I think I'll probably end up drawing some myself.
No you can apply G8M eye mats to G8F.
