How many poly is a lot?

So, someone linked to some product somewhere, and it is mentioned : poly count : 3,2 millions.

Nice information, but how much is 3,2 millions poly? I have no clue. Maybe it's a not much, like 3.2 millions grains of sand on the beach? Maybe it's a lot, like 3.2 millions euros inherited from a wealthy uncle I had never heard about?

So, for insance, for comparison's sake, what is the poly count of an average G8 character?

You can open the scene information window tab and see what polycount your scene and loaded items are, that should give you an idea, all base genesis figures are around 35K

It depends on exactly what the product is, but in most circumstances, 3.2 million polys would indeed be considered "a lot".

Interesting to know. But in the information window, they don't mentionn "poly". They mentrion....vertices, I think? I assume it's the same thing?

Also the scene I tested was indicated as having about 3 millions of those, even though it included only 4 characters and a relatively simple background. Would that be normal?

Vertices are points, polys are the flat surfaces that join the points. However in most models the number of polys and vertices are roughly the same.
