Make it STOP! (Solved)

You at Daz do know that it's bad form to have a loud obnoxious video play as soon as you open a web page, right? Everytime I check a product and back out of it, the video starts again. Please put something on there so we can either stop it from playing altogether, close it or mute it.

Thank you. Urgh

If you wish to give this feedback to Daz, you will need to put in a ticket as these forums are set up as user-to-user.

Any store where I need to have some extension installed to shop in peace, I just won't shop there. That is not a solution. I've left my feedback through the form though, hoping this gets corrected in the morning.

"Backing out"? You're clicking a link and then using the history back button to go back? That essentially reloads the page again each time. A simpler way is right click the item you want to look at and click "Open Link in New Tab". Then when you're done looking at the item or page close that tab. You won't have to keep reloading the main sales page over and over again. Plus it helps you "keep your place" on where you are on the page. :)

It's years of habit. I do what you suggested when I remember, but I tend to click on things directly and not right click things. But it's 2am here and I open the sales page to a booming video. I'm glad I didn't wake my husband.

I agree, this is TOTALLY OBNOXIOUS!!!!  OMGosh, your basic webmaster 101 rules are NEVER put a playing video with sound or any sound on your pages. That's SO 1980's!

  • L'AdairL'Adair Posts: 9,479

It may be different for laptops, but I use a desktop, and my speakers have an On/Off/Volume knob on them. Those speakers are only on when I actually want to hear something, like the Substance Painter tutorial I was watching today.

That's not the ideal solution. Everytime I reload a page with an auto-play, streaming video, my experience is impacted by the extra bandwidth. (And I'm talking about a lot of sites besides Daz. It's a freakin' epidemic! ROFL!)

Eh. I turn off the sound and just scroll down past it. But yeah, really annoying.

(On Safari, on a Mac, if it matters.)

I am annoyed, also.  Will submit a ticket asking that loud music be removed.

Which reminds me, get off my lawn.

Try uMatrix (works in tandem with uBlock Origin) if you use firefox. It will stop elements like the youtube vid from playing.

This is why I almost always keep my phone and laptop on mute. Though DAZ has some videos that override the mute settings on the phone. Ugh.

I am also wondering what they are on about.   But I also use AdBlockPlus

I have to admit though that I do wonder why on earth people who make videos with soundtracks have the volume up so load,  and why they don't realise that some of us like music instead of noise.

using Waterfox, no 'adblocking etc' extensions/plugins and i am not getting the auto-start on the video?

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,704

I don’t hear any ads on my iPad.

In general I keep* the volume off unless I want to hear something, but I did try it with the volume on and heard nothing,

i do  think that ad would not encourage me to want daz though. The character used looks dated and the Mohawk hairstyle eh... not really showcasing what studio can do.

I saw the video on the main page but it didn't start automatically. I have to click the okay button. So maybe they fix it?
  • macleanmaclean Posts: 2,438

Hmmm... I use Waterfox with UBlock and Flash Block Plus and I didn't even see a video, much less hear it. (I also keep sound off, but I switched it on to test)

What video?? I guess I must have missed it.  I am using Kaspersky AV with media & tracking on so it blocks about everything. Maybe why i never noticed any video playing here at daz unless its a video someone posted in the forums

example: just using this 1 forum page I am blocking 16 web tokens and ad trackers

It's a YouTube setting. It's a YouTube video, and I have autoplay on YouTube turned off. The video didn't autoplay for me.

  • AllenArtAllenArt Posts: 7,175

If it's a youtube setting it doesn't happen on any other website. Honest ;). I can honestly say that most videos DON'T autoplay when I hit a web page. Has to be something else.

  • Hmmm... I thought we had the sound off on the video by default.  I'll have someone go look at that.  Thanks.

annoying and obnoxious... I submitted a ticket.
    Didn;t see a video..just the music playing...
The 1st time I checked in, I had 10 tabs open..ended up closing all of them and then realized it was DAZ playing it.

The sound is off by default now.  Hit the page again and you shouldn't hear it.  If you do it's because your computer has a cached version.  You can verify this by hitting it with an incognito browser windows.  Apologies guys, this was meant to have the volume off by default.
