DForce Questions ???

I am waiting for my daughter to print all the information about dforce I have collected and send it to me, in the meantime I have a couple questions. Will bookmark this thread for any questions in the future.

Question #1 The items made for the Gen4 series models that have an obj file, can these be used with dforce and on the Genesis series models? PVC-GearD Aiko 4 and Jump Gear were part of a bundle I got and thought I might use them on the G2 models with dforce.

Question #2 If I can use these items, is there anything I need to do to them beforehand? I already know I need to get them to fit the models first and have that covered.

    1) sometimes. It dpends on how the model is made - unwelded seams will open up, unwelded buttons etc will fall off, buttons thata re welded will distort, selef-intersection is likely to cause an explosion.

    2) again, depends on the models - you could split buttons off, then load one of them and isntance it parented to rigid follow nodes, you couold weld seams, you could fix self intersection and so on.

So I can use the items and possibly others, just have to make sure seams are welded, which I can do.  For the buttons maybe weight map to make them rigid, could that work on them and other things like belts? I need to start using weight mapping and learn it anyway to if that works it can be a beginners test of using it.

As I said, it depends - there's no general answer, some items will work well (possibly restricting the effect with a weight map), some won't without major modification. Weighting the buttons while attached isn't usually a good idea as it effectively pins those areas in place - there isn't, at least currently, a way to make an area of a mesh rigid but still hav it follow the simulation of the area it is attached to.

One thing that solves a lot of problems with clothing (in addition to what Richard mentioned) is to set Bend Stiffness to 0.2. That suppresses a lot of random mesh explosions. I also find it helpful to add an influence weight map and reduce influence on buttons, collars, and cuffs. After getting a clothing item to successfully drape, you can always go back and try higher influence weight and bend stiffness if you want.

Ok will give this a go, have yet to use dforce, only just got a computer that could handle dforce and iray (still not a fan of iray), and want to try animate 2 before the month trial ends.

Thanks for the help, this is bookmarked so will more then likely return with more questions as I progress...lol
