    Fiji image has tutes too

you basically open an image series, save it as a pgm file then export that as an obj

so say you have MRI slices of a bone it should make a 3D mesh of it with the cavities

its a case of finding suitable MRI scan images

    Thanks a lot, Wendy.

I am trying to find the formula for the bone marrow look a like, but no luck yet.

    Artini

Weird creations.  The look of HPL horror story creatures and objects. My kind of stuff.

From 2007 comes this forum thread byTorolf Sauermann  http://forums.cgarchitect.com/15503-new-moebius-ring-torolf-11.html with a bone cube model. The Thread goes on for about 33 pages with a lot of very interesting geometric models before Torolf Sauermann went on a tirade about rich capitalists and then disappeared into the wild blue yonder.

Torolf mentions a free program called Kdsurf  http://k3dsurf.sourceforge.net/index.html which he used to make many of his basic model forms. It seems he was just about to offer some explanations on how he made the infamous, mysterious, swiss cheese model on page 32 of the Thread before he went on his tirade. http://forums.cgarchitect.com/15503-new-moebius-ring-torolf-32.html

    Thanks, FlashGarcia.

I have experimented with Blender and I am getting slowly to what I want.

Blender is the best for my modelling attempts, so I will stick with it for a while.

    Artini,

How did you make this one in Blender? It's very close to a volume "bone marrow" look, and having volume it would work for an animation moving through it's web structure.

I have a version of Blender loaded up in my laptop and I know the basics of how to use it,

    Here you are:

    1. Create a cube and move one or more of its faces (in Edit mode), until you get the desired volume.

    2. In Object mode apply Subdivision modifier in Simple mode. I have choosen level 6.

    3. Run Crack It plugin on such object.

    4. Apply Wireframe modifier.

    5. Apply Subdivision modifier again (level 3 or 4).

    6. UV map in Edit mode (if you wish to use texture based shaders).

    7. Export as .OBJ from Blender.

    Artini,

How does one make a solid, volume, cube of your Voronoi cube?

I finally found a "look" for my bone marrow that's close to what I imagined using a GyroidLattice in Mathmod, modifying it a bit and then saving it as an object file, and then loading it up in Blender. I am too pooped now to make a render of it, but will do so tomorrow.

  • ArtiniArtini Posts: 10,302

That is the good question, FlashGarcia.

So far, I have found that included with Blender "Crack It!" produce a sort of a solid volume.

I will further experiment with Blender, to find out more about the volumes.

As you can see, these are just edited wireframe objects and I do not know yet, how to make them more like bone marrow.

Blender has the Remesh modifier, which makes objects solid.

I haven't been using Blender for a while, so I had to struggle a bit to remember the camera controls, and so forth. So here is a very rough draft "screenshot" of the structure of a volume cube Gyroid Lattice from Mathmod, saved as an object file, and finally loaded into Blender.

The next problem is finding out how to make the Mathmod Gyroid Lattice model a lot larger and with a finer interior structure so that an animation can be done through it.

I tried loading up my 2 Gryoid models in Wings 3D but each one took too long to load up. The models loaded up quickly in Blender.

I wish, I could create such objects in Blender directly.

Well folks, it seems Stijn van der Linden, got there before I did. https://www.shapeways.com/product/UZJ849K6N/gyroid-bone-6cm

ASopticom this youtube person has a bunch of Gryoid videos, with some of them animated and zooming through Gyroid meshes that look like bone and clusters of nerve cells.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW1e6XgUJAc

I downloaded the Gyroid video from the toki FX youtube page, that you posted above, about a month ago but I still haven't used it to help make my own gyroid models yet.

    another Gyroid video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZrIRJX9GjQ

Maybe some Carrara geeks could make Gyroid and Voronoi plugins for Carrara.
