Now which product was I using again? Null is power.

SImple trick : Create a null and name it after the product your using..makes its easy to remember where to find it later. NULL is power LOL.

One of Rob's sample scripts will provide a list of products used (as long as they leave something in the scene) http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/metadata/list_products_used/start

Thanks Richard!  I downloaded the .dsa file, where do I put it? And where will I find it in DS?  Do you know if it catches the HDRI used as well?  I only read through part of the script. wink

You can put it wherever you like, th default would be something like /Scripts/Utilities/ in your main content diectory (Docuemnts/Daz 3D/Studio/My Library for example), and you woudl then find it in the Content Library pane under Daz Studio Formats>My Library>Scripts>Utilities (where you coudl right-click and make it a Custom Action, for quicj access from a menu in future).

Does using a null have any advantage over just renaming the product?

The script will be worthwhile, but when just scanning throug my smart content I might find an item like  a pose that I might want to use in the scene mayby the pose inspired me. But as you have not loaded a figure yet you can't load the pose. So I create a null name the product and continue perusing the smart content while my brain seeks new ideals. Mayby I don't load a figure for quite a while, but when I finally do, well there sits my null reminding me where to go find my pose that I was curious about using. Not a trick that everyone needs or will use, just sharing because it rocks for me.

Like if you used a pose, you could have an empty null in your scene parented to the figure root marked "Capsces FunPose 05" or something.

You could use it where there's more than one thing in play - like an item and a texture addon - 2 nulls on one figure.

Basically a null can be more than just a group - it can be an empty item in your scene for whatever you need that for. (e.g. as a location marker to 'snap to')

Great script to run after I create the scene and want to collect the resources for export or archiving. The null trickI describe here is used to help remember which I item I might come back to during the creation process, its just a noteholder for me as there have been many timesI see something in the content but after rifling through looking at other stuff for inspiration I lose track of what I had been thinking about using. The null becomes a simple  bookmark so I can go back to that pose or clothing item later.

Sounds like a neat script and it might be useful if there were instructions on how to actually use it.  Exactly how/where is the list supposed to show up?  I loaded it in the scripts folder clicked the icon and... nada.

That would be super helpful for PAs to help us list the products used in our promos - I can't seem to get it to work though. Is there something specific one needs to do? I downloaded it and added to my script folder, then opened a scene and clicked on the script and nothing happened. I've tried it with several different scenes but nothing happens. Does it not work with the new Daz Studio beta?

I am assuming you have to open the script IDE window to view the output. If you execute the script mentioned above from the content window nothing appears to happen, go look in the script IDE window and the output should there.

Follow the link to that script mentioned above go back a page and wow, there are some awesome scripts available:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/start

I see one for collecting assests, thats power.

If you paste the script into the ScriptIDE pane and click exencute the output will appear at the bottom of the pane, if you run it from a file the output will be written to the log file.

May sound like a stupid question, but the log file seems endless how can I clear it out to see just the most recent stuff? I attempted to run the save scene assests script. Which says it will not display output, so I don't have a clue where it saved the assests.

update: I think this script does not do What am I thinking it does (Export or save assests), but at any rate I am not seeing any output in the log file or the script window, it does do something though.

You could open it in a text editor, with DS close, delete everything, and save it (or just delete the file itself). But if you view the log after running the script everything should be at the very end.

The script results displayed (when it works) only display the names that are shown in the scene tab.  So, Skinny Jeans or Stone V8 still remains a mystery if you a trying to track products used, after the fact. sad

However, I did find that if I select an object in the scene tab, then go to the options in the right hand corner, select edit -> Scene Identification, I can often find out what product the item is part of.
