Clothing for Genesis Guys

I didn't think it would happen but guy's clothing options are hitting a new all-time low. Paying the same price for men's clothing as women's clothing but next to ZERO functionality is utter INSANITY. I understand that men's clothing just doesn't sell, but I feel the problem is exacerbated by offering dead, painted-on clothes. Who would pay the kind of money vendors are asking for these items? It's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy...like: "You see, we told you, men's clothes don't sell!" I can find cheaper women's clothes like a standard shirt and jeans that open, blow in the wind, and even make you a sandwhich - ok, maybe not the last one. And these women's clothing look great on guys (maybe tweaking a few textures here and there)...I almost wish unisex was a thing at Daz3D.

Unisex was a thing with genesis 1. But they changed it.
Although I agree with you, the clothes in question DO look realistic, and they are not plagued by poor/skintight fit in the crotch and thigh area like most Pro Bundle male contemporary wear. Also, since the pants and shoes appear to be one geometry, the morphs for pants cuffs---which no one except Stonemason's Streetwear gives us---are not needed. It's good that Oskarsson helped Polygonal Miniatures make a product fit for Genesis 8.
I'd like to see how the clothes look in action and slouchy relaxed poses.
People didn't seem to want the unisex genesis. I remember being told at the time the sex split was so that it would be easier to make clothing, wihch it probably was. The unintended consequence was that the men got fewer things.
I only render men, and do agree, that sometimes buying content for the women and using it on the men is the way to go. It is too bad, but, sadly for various reasons there isn't a huge market for guys and their content. I wish it were not so, but that's the reality here at this store, at least for now.
I heard that Genesis was much harder to create clothes for by the vendors that I know who made stuff for it. I guess it depended on the vendor ;).
I have been saying for awhile that Daz is creating a self-fullfilling prophecy with male clothing, even if I do believe that male items do sell less than female. But how MUCH less I think is slighting inflated compared to the reality. And I think times are changing and people really ARE more interested in the males now than they used to be. I know I don't want MY universe to be made up of only women (perish the thought....I'd have to become a hermit....lol).

The story at the time was that it was PAs who didn't want the unisex Genesis. Initially most of the customers were a bit irked over the change back to seperate Male and Female versions with Genesis 2, though the fact that the all-in-one body suit look that so many Genesis outfits had soon disappeared probably mollified a lot of them. I know that was true for me, even though I hated having to spend double to get the same functionality.
Well, I wouldn't mind that so much as long as it was only women and me as the only male... have to do what we can to keep the species going, right?
Definitely true with the DAZ Originals, especially since a lot of the male outfits don't even come with a shirt. With women the skimp is usually not including shoes, even though poor Victoria's feet are constantly set in high-heel mode in the promos for those same products, even when she's barefoot. There are a few PAs who make great male clothing, but I suspect that part of the problem is that modern male clothing just doesn't come in as wide a variety women's clothing does, whereas, as Lady Gaga keeps proving, you can put almost anything on a female character and call it an outfit.
I imagine that developing clothing for Genesis 1 *was* more difficult.
Genesis 1 was a whole new model that everyone was having to figure out as they went along. And then they had to support both genders and a base child morph as well. Quite a transition for people used to limiting themselves to V4, M4, K4 and no more than a handful of specific add-on shapes to have to consider.
There was also the fact that you had to create the clothes for an androgynous base, which made it way more difficult to have it fit the male and female character properly afterwards, especially around the breasts on the female.
Well, I'd be another female to add to the wild mix. Wouldn't be good for me. LOL

This is truth, but honestly, how many casual outfits and exo/space suits does a guy need? I was almost, but only 'almost', excited that the new H&C dress shirt had an open button option. But, I hear ya, it's true in society that men's clothing is very limited to its range, but where has the imagination gone? There are amazing designer lines coming out for guys every year...the ideas are there. I know SickleYield gets asked this question a billion times over (concerning men's clothing) and she more or less said that most vendors do this for a living and to invest a lot of time in men's garments that don't sell isn't putting food on the table - long and short of it, I suppose. Which leads me to wonder if Daz strictly instructs vendors to make men's clothing whenever a new character comes out or to compliment a theme as fillers, because these garmests look like the barest of barest minimum has been done in their creation. I agree that there are indeed some great men's clothing out there, especially since RiverSoftArt has released the converters. My god, some of those Genesis 2 male clothes had it going on! I am astounded by their functionality and variation.
BUT, that all said...I can't justify spending the same amount of money for a men's outfit as a woman's, that does nothing more than expand or loosen armpits.
Most of my favorite outfits for the guys are for Genesis 2. Too bad that's changed :(

Genesis 2 seemed to be the high point for men's apparel. Sad those glory days are now gone :-( I was hoping there'd be more... then out came g3, and the happiness was over.
The shoulders of the Genesis 3 line does not convert as well as I’d like to gen 8.
Agreed. And vice-versa. The JCMs are wrong, because of the T-Pose/A-Pose difference between the two generations. To fix that, we need to create shoulder JCMs for the converted clothing. (Nope. I have yet to tackle JCMs!)
