How much you allocate for DAZ purchases per month?

davesodaveso Posts: 7,787

I found I'm spending $60 a month average since I started buying here ... many many years ago ... not too bad really.
Lately though its been higher.

Trying to stay within budget with so much cool stuff released is a bit difficult.

It used to be $50 for me, but now it's a lot less. I'm saving up for more RAM and some other things.

I already own too much of content, I keep $100 for a Male Pro bundle or some new releases.

There are too many figures in my library, I'm less interested about adding more.

for sure...most of the new figures are custome morphs, but its possible to morph your own to pretty mcuh anyone you want ... now I mainly buy  for great skin textures than the character.

I don't allocate, I rationalize my purchases based off experience in using items and needs. I also do commercial work with my purchases, so that helps justify the spending also, as does whether I get it on sale. Over the last few months, I estimate commercial work paid for half of what I have spent on 3D, so it kinda washes a bit. Then again, I don't live paycheck to paycheck and have other hobbies as well. I spent $160 on golf not to long ago and about $200 on some fishing gear this month, that would have been a nice chunk of 3d items, LOL.

Unless there's a male bundle I want in a month I usually only spend about $30 here a month, and that's including my $8 a month for the PC+ club. There's been less and less that I really wanted here so I haven't been spending much.

I dont allocate to a Daz budget. I see it I like it I buy it
  • I haven't allocated anything monthly to 3d content. When I first picked up the hobby end of 2017 I spent close to a grand in a few months, not counting hardware I upgraded, but didn't spend much if anything for half a yr or better after. Now I mainly purchase for skins/textures, what I think will be excellent hair and lately tutorials that I feel may provide info to take me to the "next level". I have also invested heavily in Octane recently so not much on actual 3d content. I almost always pick up any of bluejaunte releases for the skins though.

I allocate $100 at a time -- Then, if I have it available,  I simply allocate more by buying another gift card when I run out (And I'm not even going to begin to admit to what I actually spend)

I'm terrified to even think about it. I was doing pretty good until last fall when I finally made the leap from Poser to Studio. Having to move from V4-era items to Gen8/IRay items has blown any semblance of a budget out of the water. I make sure I don't buy so much I can't pay off my credit card every payday, but that's about it right now. I mitigate this by buying as much on sale as I can.

Basically until I tell myself "stop!" xD ...:'(

I'm still new I guess, so there are many important products I still don't have, that rarely go on sale.

I have to rely on sales a lot. I've just bought one male and one female pro bundles until now: I don't usually get them or new releases.
On average, I've achieved a 94% discount (but that's considering freebies etc.).

But most of all, it bothers me how much time I waste checking out sales every morning angry

I don't allocate, I buy when I see/want something, and then I tell myself I should start to allocate and it is ridiculous to spend so much on virtual goods, a majority of which I have not even rendered.  Then I buy a gc, telling myself that it is my "budget" for the next month, or three months, depending on the amount I bought.  Course the gc gets spent very quickly.  Yes, I belong in Dazaholics Anon

I don't allocate, per se, but try (sometimes successfully) to keep it under $30 USD a month... unless the sale is really amazing, or if I need something badly for a project.  If I don't spend it here, or every month, it invariably goes to The Other Place (TM).  The last couple of years were probably less, because real life is very unfriendly up here... but we've had a lucky year :-)

I wonder what a study on the psychology of Daz shoppers and the sales the store does would look like? <.<

I don't allocate, either. If I like it and its a good price I may buy it. I try to avoid upselling tactics too much. That can easily get out of hand. When I first started using Daz I probably got carried away a bit at times. Now I am much more selective. One reason is I have a bunch of content, it seems silly to buy the same looking things over and over again. The other reason is that I have learned a lot about the program and how this stuff works, I know how to do a lot more of my own stuff, too. I can imagine that this arc is how a lot of users are, they get pickier as time goes on.

Which is why Daz needs to be able to attract as much fresh blood as it can.

I don't allocate. If I see something I want I get it. If I know I really can't get it right then, I put it in the wishlist and save it for later.

...at most about 40$ on average (roughly lets me use my two PC+ coupons).  On a very tight fixed retirement income here that has been made even tighter due to certain deductions being taken out.

Also tend to wishlist a lot as well until I can either afford it or it goes on sale.

Have spent way too much. I think the most in a single year is $1600. I finally realized to jump on the gift card sales and then wait for sales where I can get something I need. I earn enough on the side so purchases are tax deductible.
  • $32 bucks a month and usually spent on content that I know I’ll use frequently. Years ago I stopped buying stuff that maybe I used once and haven’t since.

I also buy gift certificates for myself as well and what I don’t use I just save and add to them so when a big sale comes on a bundle I’ll have the cash on hand.

Too much.  Way too much.  I try to keep it in the $300 range, but I've had months during the big sales where I spent $700.00 at DAZ alone, despite the fact taht I could render for years on what I already have and never duplicate a figure or an outfit.  But that's going to stop for a while, as I just got hit with two big house-related whammies:

Not into financial allocation really, it is just hard esp when there are surprise flash sales going on with majority of sale coming from my wishlist...but then whatever works! If one wants to have it, one has to get it, no matter how LOL.

It's about $300 here as well. Sometimes even more. It slows down now, as I look for quality and uniqueness and somehow a lot of the new stuff doesn't really appeal to me. Sometimes too perfect or polished, or more of the same. Especially with skin, I love details like wrinkles and imperfections. I rework most of the skins, as I don't use Iray as main render engine. I just need diffuse, bump, displacements and reflection maps and love to combine and adjust them in photoshop.

I decided to look at sales and things I've missed and products that seem to be worth the money spent. This month I'm just below $100 so far, so I might end up below $200 in the end.

...what has been saving me a lot lately has been the effective "abandonment" of G3 for G8.  I can usually find what I still need for G3 on a sale or in Fast grab these days.

I already don't spend a lot on a monthly basis, and I guess you could say I do budget.  I rarely buy anything at full price except when that's required to get big discounts on something else.  I mostly buy discounted store gift cards (sometimes these require additional purchases at full price, but I manage those), convert them to store credit, and spend from that.

While it IS possible to do my own morphs, that's not an efficient use of my time.  And when a Pro Bundle, with all of their added clothing and props, gets down to $25 or $30 through a sale or a special promotion (further discounted by me using store credit purchased at "lower than full price", well now we're talking about high (super high) time and dollar efficiency for me to just buy them rather than design them.

..I find the investment I've made in morph resources to more than pay itself back.  I don't mind spending the extra time as I can save my results as a character asset and always have them available. I may on purchase a base character to expand the "gene pool" so to say but rarely bother with "add on" character morphs.

I don't; I keep store credit, then buy as the fancy takes me.

I only buy store credit when it's either 20% off without a buy-in, or if a buy-in, then it MUST be something I'd have bought anyway. I determine this by sitting on the cart for a few hours - if the offer expires: so-be-it.

On a daily basis I add items to the cart, then wait a few hours at least, and usually until next day; it saves me cash, and I only buy stuff I need (want is a closer description).

... The mantra: "There is always another Sale" applies.

DAZ seem to have adapted my mantra "Get them while you can", which can be relevant with all the stuff that seems to disappear from the store regularly.

I use to keep a $100 budget for buying 3d content for years.. but i have so much content now that I have changed my spending habits and do not keep a budget for 3d anymore . i maybe spend $20 a month or less unless its a great male pro bundle of sorts. or a needed plugin or tool to improve animation with daz studio. other wise.  there no sense for me to keep a 3d budget anymore.  Besides I never kept to it anyway.  I always was spending more than I allocated for 3d each month.   But my 3d needs have changed & so have the way I shop for content, so I guess it a natural progression to slow one's spending when one gather's so much 3d content over the years.
