How to make 3rd party figures show up in People submenu?
Hi all,
I really like loading the default Genesis 3/8 model and play around with several People morphs to create new actors. Unfortunately, there are some nice characters on third party sites, that doesn't show up in the Genesis 3/8/Actor/People submenu. What can I do to make them show up there?

I first recommend wating a video: Google "adding metadata to daz studio" and you should see many videos. Next, you should read an official set of instructions like: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/207530533-Some-items-do-not-show-up-in-the-Smart-Content-pane Once, you learn how to add metadata (the info that tells Daz Studio that a figure is a Genesis 8 person rather than a prop for Victoria 4), you pretty much gain superpowers....
Where are you looking? That sounds like a parameter path in the Parameters pane (which isn't a menu - menus are the main menus across the top, File, Edit, and so on, the option menus on panes and some dialogues, usually shown by a lined button, and the right-click menus on various elements).
If the characters that you are referring to are for Genesis 3 or 8, they should be showing up under People if they have been packaged and installed correctly. One possibility is that, since much third party content must be manually installed, you have not installed it correctly. It would be helpful if you could pick one of the characters that you are referring to and provide us with a path to the [character name].duf file where it exists within your content library. We will need the full path, beginning with the drive letter. You would get this information from your file manager (Windows Explorer in Win7 or earlier, File Explorer or whatever in Win10), not in DAZ Studio. The necessary .duf files and .dsf files must be in the proper location to show up as expected in DAZ Studio.
For example, the path to one of the third party characters that I have for G8F is:
D:\3DContent\People\Genesis 8 Female\Characters\Second Circle\Karen\SC Karen Character.duf
The path to the .dsf files that load automatically with the G8F figure are located:
D:\3DContent\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\second circle\SC Karen Body.dsf and SC Karen Head.dsf
In your case, of course, your main content library will be not be named "3DContent" like mine, but whatever name you have given it. If the files for your character are not located in those paths, the content has not been properly installed.
Sorry for the confusion, you are right. It's a parameter path in the Parameters pane. I can browse to the models just fine when going through the content.
I can find and load them from the Content Library, and I know how to add models to the Smart Content tab (too much of a chore). Do I have to go there to have them appear as morphs, as well?
You can drag and drop the character from the Content Library into the Smart Content panel under People.
Just pause for a moment on the each sub-catagory in Smart Content and it will slide open automanticly for you as you search for the place you want to drop it in. Fastest and easiest way I know to get something added to the Smart Content.
No, this has nothing to do with the Content Management System. Are the characters in fact usign custom morphs or are they setting the morphs from the daz (or other) morph packs diectly? In the latter case then there won't be a character-specific slider at all, just a lot of common sliders set to varying values. If it is a custom morph, or has a master slider to set all thes tock morphs correctly in one step, then it may be in another group - Morphs or ZBrush Morphs for example. If you find it there, click the gear icon on the slider, and select Parameter Settings you can edit the Group value (I think - it might be labelled Path) to use the location you want, using / to separate groups. If you do edit the path that way I suggest saving a new Character preset and using that to load the figure.
Thanks Richard, I'm going to play around with those settings!
