Whatever Happened to Templates?

So a bunch of new products I've gotten for Gen 8 figures no longer come with templates.  Of course, I have never needed templates until I ran across a Gen 8 outfit that crashes the 3Delight renderer (https://www.daz3d.com/orleans-armor-for-genesis-8-males).  It's of course a pivotal piece of clothing I need for multiple renders and it's pretty much the only Gen 8 product I own that refuses to be rendered in 3Delight. Gotta love life's ironies.

After trying to manipulate the surfaces settings, I figured why I don't I just try to retexture the outfit.  Then I went to my product page and found it and many other Gen 8 items don't have templates.

So a few questions?

1) Why?

2) Is there a relatively easy why to retexture something without templates?  Could I just use the texture maps as a sort of template?  I know I couldn't redistribute them because they're copyrighted, but I just need to render the clothing.

3) I'm also wondering if there's an easy way to clear all the surface settings from a product.  I figured I could just hit delete on nodes, but it just deletes the entire piece of clothing.

Thanks!

    Well, try this? https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/139326/irayto3delight-conversion-script/p1

Not sure why it would need retexturing necessarily if the issue is some iray settings causing an issue with the auto-conversion, though I don't know what settings would cause that. If it's a memory issue, I believe that conversion script would remove normal maps, or you can go to where the normal maps are being used and remove them manually. You don't delete anything, just go to the map drop down box and select "None".

For why there aren't templates, no idea.

For using the texture maps to know where edges are, usually you can unless they have flat patterns going out past the edges.

In either case though, I don't think there should be any reason you would need new maps for 3delight. If the images are too large, you can manually resize the images.

I think if there aren't templates, then it's an error.  You're supposed to put in a support ticket. I had to do that for something not long ago.

I use https://www.daz3d.com/uv-tailor to generate templates as I need them. Not so useful if you only need one occasionally but I use them regularly and this saves me a butt-load of time searching.

An excellent suggestion. Sadly, after using that script, 3Delight still crashes.  I think it's some kind of materials setting problem and not necessarily the actual textures themselves causing the crashes.  I will check the sizes of the texture maps and see if they're inordinantly large.

    Thanks for the great advice.

A lot of my Gen 8 clothes don't have template downloads in the product page.  It makes me wonder if they're somewhere in the product files, or if DAZ doesn't make their creators supply them, or if there are IRAY settings that don't use textures so templates aren't needed.

Yeah meant to reply earlier, I was able to try it and also got that error. I don't think I have ever seen that before, I was going to test later to narrow down what is causing the problem...

That would be awesome because I am stumped.

FYI, your link is to your product library page which causes it to just redirect to clicker-on-er's product library page.

I can't figure out what's going on. If I apply a generic 3delight shader to one of the items (anything with metal seems to cause the issue, the bodysuit I can render), it will render if I remove ALL the maps. So I figured it was somehow one of the textures. So I put the base texture on a plane. But then that rendered! So I put the base texture back on one of the items (the waist piece).... and it crashed. I have never seen anything like this.

It's had me stumped for months.  I appreciate the efforts.
