WHOA - How many gigs in your My DAZ 3D Library and effects

davesodaveso Posts: 7,811

I just checked My DAZ 3D Library to see the size, and its somewhat huge.... 355GIG of data.
A lot .. plus probably have as much still uninstalled from various places.

This has got to influence the speed of the program loading as well as overall speed during use.  or not?
If so, what is the best way to manage all of this.

Another deal is the fact I have the zip files for these products on my hard drive, as well as most of the extracted folders. I think I will delete all the extracted folders .. will free up a lot on my hard drive.
Zip files I want to keep but will put on extrnal drive ...

almost 600 gb here lol, that's only unzipped stuff, I keep my zip archives on a seperate drive. If I open up certain sections of my library in DS, sometimes it takes like 5 seconds to actually expand it. Genesis figures take like maybe 45 seconds to load in, other than that, no speed issues really.

Since I just used DIM for the first time, this thread made me look at the file amounts I have to install...........563 gigs, LOL Then there are the rendo files which come close to 300 gigs. Good thing I have 6 TB of drive space, LOL

laugh yeah .. I was looking at drives today. I have a 2TB in my system, and nearly full ... plus two external 1TB drives ... full. Its great I'm a low spender at DAZ.  I haven't downloaded all my rendo stuff yet. It would also  by cool to recover all the stuff on my old hard drives. Its the only thing I've kept from my old systems, the hard drives. Will they work? that is the question.

Installed?  It's somewhere around 4TB, I think.. I had to move the entire thing a few months ago, from a 3TB that I'd completely filled to a 6TB external (with an 8TB backup.)  But I've got a lot of stuff from Rendo, Content Paradise and Poserworld that isn't installed yet, plus a crazy amount of freebies.

No... there are just some of us who've spent way too much on 3D assets over the years.  crying

  • only 530 Gigs, with probably half again as much not yet unpacked/installed.  Now I feel virtuous... ;-)

Honestly you don't even have to spend much to accumulate a LOT of 3D assets. You can easily fill a several TB hard drive on freebies from ShareCG, Rendo, CGTrader, Turbosquid, not to mention dozens of other sites listed on the PoserDaz Freebies wiki. So the size of one's 3D assets collection doesn't necessarily reflect how much they've spent. Not to mention places like Daz3D has assets at a VERY reasonable price compared to some other places. Some places you can spend HUNDREDS on a single 3D model - whereas at Daz3D you can get a LOT of assets for the same amount that other places charge for a single model. $100 spent here can get you quite a few awesome products, particularly on a great sale like the recent $1.99 flash sales. Whereas some places that $100 could get you maybe one model. lol

Long story short, GBs and TBs don't necessarily reflect how much one has spent on their 3D library. :)

I only have 589 gigs installed. I don't install everything because, well, it's either old and I'll likely never use it again or something I know I won't be using for awhile ;) So between Daz, Rendo and others, freebies and my own stuff, that's the amount of space my libraries are currently taking ;).

Oh, I konw.  A huge chunk of my runtime is taken up by freebies.  The only problem with those, though, is that you have to play the "what are the usage rights for this item" game.  DAZ and Rendo's terms make it nice and clear as to what you can and cant do, whereas on more than one occasion I've learned too late that a "freebie" wasn't even owned by the person who put it up for download.

I believe mine is about 300 GB but that does not include all my DIM Installer downloads. That's a lot of product if you realize I must have over 500 but less than 1000 DVDs and about 15 BRs and I could rip all of them (but not re-encode them) onto one 5TB USB drive (or maybe it was a 4TB USB drive).
