Question about Terradome 3

Can I still use Terradome3 using 3Delight rather than Iray since I don't have an iray supporting graphics card? What capabilities would be lost?

You can use Iray with the CPU, though it will be slower.

You will lose the custom shaders which can vary the look based on slope.

The ground shaders are custom, as they react to the terrain such as the overall height and the slope of the terrain, and the atmosphere wouldn't be useful either as it is included. Basically if you like the ground shapes it can create, and you already have ground and water shader presets for 3delight that you can use instead of what is included, you could make it work in 3delight, but it isn't going to look much like the promos. I've only used it in 3delight where I've used pwToon and am looking for an illustrated background effect, so I expect it to look quite a bit different.

Others might have recommendations of existing 3delight shaders that would work well with the geometry included in terradome.

Ok, what I expected more or less. Hearing the specifics is very helpful..Thank you very much.

  • Short answer - no, Terradome3 is designed explicitly to work with iray.

Long answer - yes, because there are clever people who don't take 'no' as an answer, only a challenge.  It does take work, though.    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/108916/terradome3-not-a-rumor-anymore-live-in-store-whoot/p5

    Lot to digest. Thanks Misselthwaite.

  • 3Delighted to be of any assistance (sorry, couldn't resist!)  If you have success using it with 3Delight, please post - I haven't even tried yet :-)

I'm afraid I purchased it knowing, 1) it was just the A zone and it's morphs I wanted for background stuff and 2) I could use DimentionTheories procedual nature shaders on it to produce the minimal effects needed. Of course being able to use more of it would have been great. Iray hardware is too expensive to switch over to right now.

Wow. That's a nice trick, changing the TD shaders over to 3Delight ones. I've played with it a bit and am getting cool results. Thanks!
