    ...so what is "Eclipse"?

Last year, DA decided it was time for an overhaul of their layout.  They branded it Eclipse.  It went live last month, though the original design is still in place - for now.

They're still working on it, and hopefully they redo a few things, because as currently configured, it's time-wasting and frustration-inducing cow manure.

..well I tried to find it but no luck. When I click on the "More" option it isn't listed with the other options at all (it should appear below the "Help & FAQ" selection but there is nothing there.

They moved it. There should be a switch on the top of the page marked "Eclipse", if you really want to try it. I'm not going to recommend it yet, though.

...one of the other reasons why I'm also not onto FB (besides all the spamming and trolling that goes on, I really also don't want ot become a "mod") is it really isn't designed well for creating a gallery like DA or other art oriented display sites.  Really don't like "slideshows" which seems to be the only option it has other than posting separate images inline.

If DA had some way to totally segregate SFW and NSFW galleries (like needing to be a Core member to access and post mature content), I'd be for that.  "Faveing" would also have to be changed to some form of symbol, such as a "Thumbs up" icon, that appears in the parent gallery rather than downloading the work into a collection.  this way it would eliminate the issue with SFW images ending up in NSFW collections.

Favorites aren't just a way to show that you like an image, which I believe will be a separate option with Eclipse, but a way for the person that liked an image to share the sort of thing they like, as well as a way to find and keep track of, related images and other content by a particular individual. I also don't think requiring Core membership is going to help do anything but eliminate NSFW images, because people aren't likely to pay to post or view such content.

    Hi kyoto kid,

did you look a these sites (punctuation removed)?  ello co , artprompts org , behance net , dribbble com , cgsociety org , 3dtotal com , ourartcorner com , pixiv net , newgrounds com

  • SnowSultanSnowSultan Posts: 3,790

From my experience, Behance is really for people looking for work, CGSociety is pretty elitist, Pixiv is a Japanese site filled with both cute anime drawings and horrifying sexual violence, and Newgrounds seems to be mostly for adult artists who got fed up with Facebook. I have my site up on Adobe's Portfolio (free with a CC subscription), and while the site builder is decent, there's no interaction between artist and viewer and it has no actual storage space for files. There just isn't a good alternate to deviantArt yet.   :|

...checked several of those in the past and again they seem to be geared either to more to traditional art/photo media or for CG art, those who use pro grade software and do everything from scratch. Pixiv seems to be primarily anime/comic book oriented while Newgrounds is similar but also focuses on animation and MMOs.

I just wish there DA would listen to those of us in their community who have not been pleased with the direction the site has been heading. I've seen more and more works there as time has gone on that would be better suited for places like "Rotica" and the like.

It is getting to the point I feel embarrassed when I send people who would like to view my work over to DA.  I don't want them to get the impression I am also into some of the themes I've seen there.

..how so?  If supposedly I can have a bit more control over the images I upload, I would think that a good thing.

Yeah, I have a good friend who isn't too fond of going there, but she still follows me and one other Daz hobbyist. She told me about searching for lighthouses and was shocked by what she saw. I'll never forget I did a search for Daz fantasy warrior...it was just about 90% pure garbage with the occassional Shibashake or Black Talons mixed in the search results. I even found my stuff once in a while amidst the dozens and dozens of smut. I don't even browse DA anymore, nor search for fellow Daz/Poser people. I mean, I'm not opposed to moderate violence and a little skin from time to time...I've worked in those areas myself, but dang, there's a lot of strangeness out there. I have all the artists I want to follow though occassionally I come across a new one I'll add to my watchlist. Usually they reach out to me first. I'm trying hard to like Eclipse, but it's just not working for me. I keep switching back and forth between old DA and Eclipse. I like the new layout, but the notifications sections and customization are really bad. And after all my complaining I still can't update my profile. I gave up a few weeks ago after continued failure.

I upload all my stuff to my Google Photos gallery now. I know that's not what the OP was looking for but it is an option if you have a google account. You can at least invite people to view your gallery there. I love the layout of the images and I'm content with viewing my stuff there. I know no one can see it unless they have the web address or I invite them, but I don't care. I create these images for myself and for no one else, but at the end of the day I still like feeling like I'm a part of this community and that's why I stick with DA. Plus I love seeing what my fellow 'watchers' come up with. Just really awesome stuff.

...I only have one piece where I used the "Mature" tag which was a parody of the NVIATWAS theme (Naked Vicky in a Temple With a Sandwich) and that was even extremely tame in comparison to what I see there. I probably didn't even need to use the tag as it really wasn't 'explicit" nor showed any "naughty bits".

Probably the most "violent" related scene I posted there was my namesake dropping out of the shadows on a would be assassin hired to go after her.  No bloodshed, gore, or anything like that. The image was influenced by the original Alien film.  You know what is about to happen, but not seeing it actually take place on screen makes it all the more terrifying.  That is suspense.

I just find it unnerving to discover works of my young and teen characters faved amid hundreds of primarily disgusting and explicit images.  Makes me wonder about some of the members there and what their mindset is. I even had someone insist I do BDSM scenes with my characters.  That person has been blocked.

Yeah...unfortunately I've had that happen to me. It got so bad I closed my original DA account of almost 7 years because of a few creeps like that.

And I've never heard of the NVIATWAS until now. That is sooo funny. :D

Google Photos will keep unwitting or prying eyes from finding my stuff and I won't have to worry about GDPR-proofing my own site.

That's preciely what I want to be able to do.  Post my work on a few adult boards I visit and direct would-be viewers to the full-size versions on my Google Photos pages.

  • Nyghtfall3DNyghtfall3D Posts: 813

Never mind... Google Photos isn't going to work for me... I just compared a render I uploaded to Google a couple hours ago with the same copy on my SD and discovered Google reduced the image quality.  There's noticeable radial banding and slightly blurred edges on Google's copy...

    So much for that idea...

  • Maybe pixiv will be the right choice? It's a great japanese site for any kind of graphics work.

I don't consider myself a prude at all, but I do get annoyed at the sexually sugestive stuff not being marked as mature.  My daughter is an aspiring artist and my wife won't let her on the site (and I totally understand), because of all the sexually sugestive images that are not marked as mature.  I have the mature filter on, but I still see NSFW stuff.  That can be embarshing when you are browsing in public.  Someone can get the impression you are a perv.  I'm still on DA for now because there is a lot of good art and artists there.  I only have like 3 images marked as mature.  I think it's better to err on the side of caution.

  • I haven't had any problems with my DA account, but I barely use it - I needed feedback, but rarely got any.  I'm too little, and not 'specialized' enough, I suppose ;-)

A few of my pictures did end up in interesting collections, though... I had no idea Red Riding Hood as a theme had such dedicated followers. That was eye-opening!  I have no objection to artistic nudity and whatnot, but no interest in browsing things beyond that point, and no desire to point family or friends to a place that works like youtube... where you can start with an innocuous children's song and end up in some very dark corners, indeed.

I am presently also in the consideration process of setting up a simple site of my own, just so I can give a safe, convenient location for people I want to show pictures to.  Renderosity isn't bad at all - I get feedback there, and it's very convivial, and it's gone a long way to keeping the hobby fun for me - but people can't comment (or see certain pictures) unless they make an account, which doesn't work for my friends and such.

  • Wordpress is pretty easy to use particularly with a page builder plugin, I use Visual Composer but there are plenty of others.  Time is more of a problem than anything else.  And for non-adult sites you use Facebook or other social media to guide people there.  There are social sites for adult content you can do the same thing with.  Post example images on the stream with a link to your site.

I just use DA as a place to put stuff with no image compression. Some of the stuff makes me go wuuuh, but ... eh.

  • This conversation seems bizare to me, as for the past year all I hear over at DA is about overzealous censors deleting content left-and-right, even stuff that is SFW.

I have heard that too, but since I rarely post mature content, I haven't encountered it.  It's pretty bizare considering all the art I have seen that should be marked mature that is not.  Don't get me wrong, I have no desire to block artists from posting mature art (the exception being child porn and child erotica), I just want them to mark it as much.  Just because a woman or man is fully clothed, does not mean the image is not mature.

That all being said, latey, I've seen more complaints about Eclipse than anything else.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,704

I think the issue is people have different ideas of what constitutes mature.

One persons sexuallly suggestive image is another persons uncovered table leg.

for me, if the couple is clothed or something I could see on the beach or in public I don’t consider it mature.

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,088

With a few exceptions, the mature stuff I have on DA is either a joke (a bunch of reclining naked old guys with their willies out grinning at the camera) or I'm being very cautious (the sea creature is technically naked)

I ageree that it is subjective.  However, If the emphesis of an image is on a male or female's private parts, it is mature content in my opinion.  I could give examples but I'm afraid of the mods.  I like the style of Anime art.  I grew up watching Speed Racer, Star Blazers, Robotech, Voltron, etc.  I've stoped viewing Anime groups, because of the before mentioned content I keep seeing on a regular basis, which is not marked as mature.  If you know your art is sexually sugestive, you should mark it as such.  Have some repect for the people who don't want to see that and the parents who don't want their children seeing it.  The people who want to see mature contact can, even if it is marked as such (excpet accounts registered as minors).  I created my daughter's account and I marked her as a minor.  She couldn't see anything that was marked mature, but she was able to see all the images that were mature and not marked as such.  That is why my wife took her off.  It's a shame, because she was getting good feedback from professionals who liked her style.

Now, I do know artists who do mark the art I mentioned as mature and kudos to them.  Thank you.  Just my point of view, nothing more...

LOL, I bet.  My daughter likes to draw furry creatures (ducktales, zootopia, etc) and she has no idea about the adult-furry stuff.  I didn't really know about it until 2009.
