Graphics Card

Will a switch to a dedicated graphics card increase iray render speeds significantly?

With the provisos that it's an Nvidia graphics card and it has enough VRAM for the scene in question, GPU rendering is a huge leap over CPU rendering.

Here's a chart showing relative render times for different models of NVIDIA cards rendering an Iray benchmark scene in Studio, with some recent prices

I don't want to spend $800 on a card if it has little to no impact on times.

If you're thinking about a 2080 you might want to poke around this thread and see what people are finding for render results. Although it's a bit confusing since the RTX series isn't really ready for prime time right now as far as Iray goes. And to add to the complication there are now a few render benchmark scenes in the mix, so you have to do some detective work:

I think you'll see something like 10x speedup with the actual state of software/drivers if you compare to CPU render

That may become 20-100x in the future with RTX cards but there is nothing certain for DAZ Studio. RTX tech is still in heavy development

Note that with RTX cards, you'll need to use the beta 4.11 of DS
