What poses are people looking for?
So I’ve got a friend in the acting/modeling business, and she’s expressed interest in helping with pose packs for Victoria. As in, posing for a camera in such a way that it could easily be duplicated on a V4/V5/V6 figure, and then posted or sold at Renderosity.
Not actually a bad idea! But it’s a crowded market. There are so many pose packs out there already, both here and at Renderosity, that it would be difficult to do something like that without getting lost among pages and pages of poses.
What are most people looking for nowadays in terms of poses? As in, what can I recommend she do if she wanted to create a set of poses?
Thanks in advance. I know it’s a strange question.

I don't know about "most people," but I'm interested in poses where the character is playing a musical instrument (guitar, piano, harmonica, drums, etc.). There are plenty of instruments out there, but very few of them come with poses...
What I know that modelling/fashion/sexy poses are in abundance and personally I ignore them. More mundane, non-sexualized poses, like giving somebody a cookie, drinking coffee in a cafe, reading a book, carrying groceries, using a phone, listening to music, being shouted on by boss, etc might stand out much more.

As a buyer I'd say literally anything but sexy pinup poses. There's a market glut of them. As a seller I'd say find out WHY there's a glut of those (usually it's because they sell really well when it comes to oversaturation of sexy content).
My advice, do some of the sexy ones as a backup, and do some others involving standing, sitting, lying down, walking, and other everyday activities. "Themed" pose packs such as action shots, dancing, etc. are harder to do well and should be saved until you've gotten a good workflow established and a product out.

I love market poses, family poses, working poses. Even if half of them are more... effeminate than most of my characters, they're at least a place to start from.
I can also always use combat poses, but there are a fair number of those out there already.
I would like poses where:
The female characters aren't swaybacked. Poses where the hips and breasts aren't thrust out or posed. I won't buy anymore. I'm saturated with those for v6
Poses I am seeking:
Eating poses (knife and fork)
Poses with hands near the face
Portrait poses for close-ups
Police officer poses
Military combat (modern poses)
fear poses
Men's expression sets
Poses for g2-child
Rescue poses
Swimming underwater poses (for humans not mermaids)
Romance poses.
Couples poses
Male buddy poses
Doctor/nurse/medical poses
Animal and people pose
Carrying groceries
grief/crying/sadness
Basically, I'll buy most men's poses. Looking for everyday stuff more than I'm looking for hunky poses.

..indeed more musician poses. Spent a fair amount of time posing a character at the organ from Magnus Manor last night, gave up and "cannabalised" one of the poses from Ness' Harpsichord.
Also sports poses, particularly Baseball/Softball, Gymnastics (the pitching styles are different between the two), Diving, Tennis, Cycling (I have yet to see any good poses for someone riding a bicycle), and "Schoolyard" Basketball (not that "Air Jordan"/"King James" nonsense).
Cooking!
Pouring something out of a bottle or can; stirring a pot; taking something out of the oven; making a sandwich; carrying a hot (or cold) platter; cutting something on a cutting board (bonus points for including sliced and/or diced veggies as props).
Housework:
Dusting; sweeping; making the bed; carrying the laundry basket; moping.
If made for Gen 4 I'd like to see both V4 and M4 (guy living alone has gotta do housework!).
Male/male poses would be a nice addition!
Especially for Genesis/M5 :)
Hmm, I might give it a go and make some of my own...argh so many projects ><</p>
Yes male poses - but please do not use a female figure to do male poses, I'm fend up with feminised poses for the guys as much as I'm fed up with the sexy pinup poses for the girls.
I'll have a go at M5 everyday poses and also at M/M love poses (nothing indescent) and put it on ShareCG.
Going to make a separate thread for that so not to hijack this one ^^
I don't care who it's for but I often need poses of someone bending down: to pick up something, to pet something, to speak to someone/something smaller, to examine something strange, etc. with arms in various positions: behind back, in pockets, one pointing, two shooshing away, two grabbing, one holding nose other waving, stuff like that.
Well, whatever you decide on doing, I highly recommend you take a look at this tutorial by Bondie9999 - http://www.daz3d.com/the-art-of-posing
While its handy to have an image to work from, its better still to understand the art of posing. I would stick with the more popular characters too.
I'd love some m5 tool using poses. Using a wrench, hammer, climbing ladder, painting, washing Windows, fiddling with gear.Yeah Vicky can use them too.
Need more partial poses, you know poses that are only for the legs / lower body or arms /upper body.
1. Everyday poses. As mentioned above. Things you would do in your daily routine at home, shopping and so on.
My example list:
-picking a lock on a door, wall safe and chest (not an everyday one unless you are a thief but a set of poses that would be cool to get made)
-eating and drinking
-getting dressed/undressed
-writing
-using a computer (desktop and laptop) typing and using the mouse.
-applying makeup/lipstick
-hailing a cab
-reading -book, newspaper, magazine, electronic kindle like device.
2. As a Star Wars fan, how about some Jedi/Sith poses? Combat, using the force, meditation and so on.
If you can, do them for M4 as well. Nothing is more annoying than seeing a cool pose set thats only for Victoria 4.
Add my vote to the 'everyday' type poses. Also, stuff like picking up and carrying a box or crate, bending over to pick something up off the floor, things like that.
I would throw in a recommendation that whatever poses one does, try to make them realistic. There are many nuances to poses that often get lost, making the pose look robotic or artificial. I would imagine that, combined with a good range of poses for a given topic are possibly as important as the topic of the pose set, possibly more. I haven't put any product myself into the market yet so I can't qualify that however. Good luck :)
You are spot on Kattey!!! Simple walking poses - both carrying items and free-handed. Walking with a purse. Seated at the computer, seated typing, simple conversation at a table. Office poses - kneeling at a file drawer. Chatting at the water cooler. The Poser and Daz universe is in *desperate* need of simple, common, basic human activities poses for V5 and V6. So anything you can do in this area is much much appreciated.
I also want to agree with SickleYield - themed pose packs appeal less to me than diverse posepacks. Also if you wish to boost sales, making several ((cringe, cringe)) sexualized poses as alternatives to your regular ones, might be beneficial (I don't believe I'm really saying that). But keep/make non-sexualized variation of same poses as well if you go this route.
Also I don't buy shooting poses but it maybe just me as I see weapon used a lot (too much, IMHO) on renders.
As I said, I don't want to hijack this thread so here is a link to my M5 poses post:
M5 poses
I think there are far too many poses out there for humans and other bipeds.
We need more Cow poses!
Poses for The Daz Cow, Noggin's Cow, and even 3rd party Cows like Milkshake the Toon Cow - and many more.
Other quadruped poses would be cool too - Millennium Dog, Millennium Cat, and even the various Snakes and Dinosaurs are all under represented in the store!
MOOOO!!!
...there used to be tool and work poses that came with a set of clothing content, however the vendor is no longer here at Daz.
I like weapons poses. But I don't need 'gun girl' poses. Realistic armed combat for police and soldiers will always get my dollar.
Also hand to hand combat poses and martial arts poses.
Ah, bummer I lost out on those. =-)
I'd like some casual and conversational poses. Most poses are dramatic, along the lines of "I'm the center of the picture" poses which are really only good for book covers. And some "bumbling" poses would be nice, I'd buy those. where he drops the sword or the vase or trips over his shoe....
+1!
animated partial poses
I agree wholeheartedly with the people that don't want to see more modelling and sexy poses. Enough already! They're everywhere and I rarely need to use them, anyhow.
I also love to have pose kits that have both full poses and then the poses broken down into partials. Upper body and lower body is good. But even better is when you get right arm, left arm, right hand, left hand, etc. I find those very useful and use them the most. If I see that a kit has partials, I always want it. Even if I'm not interested in the full poses.
Also, I use a lot of children in my pictures, so poses that can be used for kids, even if not specifically for kids, are good for me. But, kid-specific poses might be of kids helping around the house: picking up toys, dusting a table or chair, pushing a little broom around or even a big one. Kids being naughty. Being silly.
I also like comedy poses. Someone mentioned "bumbling poses". I like that. Also, clowning poses, where the character is trying to be funny, maybe trying to cheer someone up. Showing off poses - look what I can do (which could also include some "oops!" - showing off gone wrong - poses). Climbing poses.
If kids can do the pose as well as adults without it being unseemly, it's all good for me.
...one of the more fun (and i might add very useful) pose sets is Blondie9999's Rude Gestures.
We need more stuff like that.
