    If you are using windows, right-click the image (not a thumbnail) and simply choose "Save Image As".They are .jpg's, so that will be the default file format option.

    Not lately. This thread talks about the files appearing/saving as .webp files.

    That may be a function of the web browser being used, Phoenix. The files themselves are .jpg's, which you can check by right-clicking and selecting Properties.

    I know. As a PA here, we submit .jpg files. But there is something going on and it’s a recent development as you can see by browsing that thread.
