Why does blue render purple?

davesodaveso Posts: 7,845

I'm using Iray ... I have a blue G8M ... changed the regular texture to blue via changing BASE COLOR to blue. When I render, no matter what lighting, it renders purple.
I tried another using red as the base color, and white ... both render correctly.

Something happening with blue ...

Depends on the shader and lighting you are using. One possibility is that you have red in the translucency/SSS channel and that together with blue gives purple. One needs to see the material to be sure. Dependng on the light you are using it can also come from there.

depends as well on the light temperature (k) you are using. with a blue surface it will turn violet the lower you go (4000 adn below)

It also depends on your own color perception.

You should also check the Iray Render Settings, you may have "Spectral Rendering" on, that also causes a colour shift.

many factors... why does it not affect red and white, and just blue?
the only thing i changed was the base color ... red, white, or blue

It's probably mostly the 'transmitted' color and the 'translucency' color used in the surfaces settings for those materials. By default in DAZ Originals Genesis 8 models they are orange and light pink Those colors don't show up in preview but are mixed in when you render.
