For those familar with this product, is there any way to darken the hair through the surfaces tab? The default hair looks rather gray and I was wondering if that could somehow be adjusted.
Thanks!

Not directly, in this case it is an alternate texture with the hair as part of the texture (not an overlay or anything like that). If you want the hair as it is you could potentially bring it into an image editing program and work with the levels, though you would need to do that with each of the surfaces that have hair, and it would affect the skin if you don't do a lot of extra work masking it out. Or you could use the non-hairy maps and use another body hair product instead.
Such as? I have Geroge's. I'm not sure which others I own. Do you have any suggestions?
There is Oh My Bodyhair over at Renderosity for the G3 figures. That and George's are I think the two I've got for G3. There is Real Hairy for Genesis 2 but because of the way bodyhair is set up, autofit to G3 only works sometimes for me.
Redz has Oh My Body Hair which is really nice - at Rendo.

wait, at Rendo? where is that?
Renderosity
You'll have to Google it. We can't post links.

Thank you sooo sooo much!!
Hey, I was just wondering...does any one know how "Oh My Body Hair" compares with Jepe's Bodyhair Project 78? I haven't made any purchases yet but I certainly would be interested in feedback from anyone who has. Honestly, at first glace, Jepe's product looks complicated and even at $17.97 (sale price) it isn't that cheap either!
Thanks!
Oh My Body Hair is actual fibermesh (3D). Jepe's product (which I don't own---yet) is a geoshell that appears to have some depth to it, but it's not 3D, if I'm not mistaken. Oh My Body Hair has one type of hair split into body parts. Jepe's product has several types of hair and densities and growth patterns.
For reference, here are renders of Oh My Bodyhair, Jepe's Bodyhair Project 78, and the two of them combined. There are a lot of options in Jepe's product, but I think it is arranged in a straightforward way, and he also includes instructions in the product folders for how to use each section that you can view in Studio while you're working.

What he said!
Ok, so going back to my orignal posting...I just discovered something really weird! The problem I mentioned before about the hair maps that come with Ivan looking white or gray only appears to happen when I use the ones designed for IRAY, please see below. If I use the ones for 3D Delight it seems to straighen out BUT bare in mind that I'm using IRAY as my rendering engine! So I'm not sure what's going on....
It might be specular. Turn down glossy weight or top coat weight or dual lobe specular weight if any of those are turned on in the iray shader....I'd reduce glossy weight first if it's turned on ;).
Laurie
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately it didn't help. The dual lobe specular weight was already set to zero. The glossy layered weight was set at 1.00 and the top coat weight was set at 50 by default. I changed both to zero without much effect. Could it be coming from something else?
How far is that character from (0, 0, 0) when you render? iRay in DAZ Studio is known to have various problems and more of them the farther your character is from the origin (0, 0, 0)
The centre of the Daz Studio universe, where items generally load.
Honestly I don't know since I didn't save the file. I don't think I changed the Y Translate at all and the X and Z were probably about 27 and -3, respectively. So are you saying that how far I move an object could effect how something renders? If so, is there a certain range I should be concerned about? How far is too far?
Thanks again
Yes, that's the bug but the coordinates you gave aren't near far enough away from (0, 0, 0) to cause the bug I've seen in my renders.
How is he being lit? It looks like he may be lit by the camera headlamp, which basically means you are getting the reflection right across the middle, which is also where the hair is mostly. That could be making the glossiness worse.
If you turn Glossy Layered Weight down to zero though, it should remove pretty much all of the shine. I don't love what it does to the skin, but for removing the shine on the chest to make the hair look darker, that may be the quickets option. I still might try changing the lighting though.
This is the Glossy Layered Weight to zero on the Torso only. You can see more of the shine on the arms for comparison.
I have no idea! This is for a project that I'm working on several ahead of the one I am currently doing so it probably will be months before I actually confront this problem. I just wanted to get a head's up. Thanks!!
