Male Toon Hair

Okay I know that there's a bigger market for female products over male in the 3D environments. But (whines) I really need male toon hair.

I'm currently specifically looking for a toon version of this: http://www.daz3d.com/nikkou-hair-for-hiro-5

Sometimes with hair I can change the opacity maps and get some decent toon looking hair for what I'm doing. But this one not so much. I've scoured and looked and only found smatterings of toon type hair. I really like the round look for the hair like with Jazlyn.

Anybody got any ideas?

Konrad's hair is a fairly similar style.

Since you're already aware of turning off opacity maps on any hair set to work with, I can avoid explaining that option.
Also, for the most part, male toon hair is typically figure dependent. I know that sucks, but thats what all of us toon lovers just have learned to deal with the best we can. So one way to achieve a number of different toon hairs, is to take them from other toon figures you are using.

Also, one of the few toon hair creators (The3DZone) site is down which is unfortunate as she had a number of FREE toon hairs, most of which were for male figures. She is a vendor here as well as RuntimeDNA, so perhaps you can contact her to obtain those hairs.

However, here is a gem i ran across and is quite a handy set... ESPECIALLY with it being FREE!

Do you use DS or Poser? Because if its DS then would some Toon Hair Shaders help?

DAZ sell a set here: http://www.daz3d.com/toon-style-hair-shaders

Not currently at a sale price but hopefully DAZ will do a full PA sale Catch Up at the end of the month (though from past experience it might well be over the coming weekend rather than the very end of the month) so you might be able to pick it up for half price in the near future (note the avoidance of s#*n :) ).

A quick render using Pure Hair Crazy.

On the left PH Crazy with a Red preset applied, on the right the same hair & preset but with the 'Red 7' Toon Shader applied over the top. As the shader retains the original transparency maps to maintain the shape, you want to apply an original material preset before applying the Toon Shader.

Thanks Kinich. That saves me some time. ;-)

I agree Konrad hair is very similar to Nikkou hair in style, probably the best option. All of 3DUniverse's toon hair work perfectly with the above mention hair shader because the hair clumps are modeled and they don't rely on transparency for the chunky toon shape. Also check out these others styles from him if you want good toon hair.

    DestinysGarden, you're welcome it's a good product.

And for those interested here's a slightly more artistic render I created a while ago using the hair shaders on Taylor Hair for Genesis, one of the multicoloured shaders in this case, note that the image has been postworked to some extent but does show how the shaders come out.

Now I'll have to sign off as I have to up for work in just over six hours & I need some sleep (it's 11;10pm here in the UK).

I might recommend this set (http://www.daz3d.com/animated-hair-for-genesis-2-male-s). If you follow the links back and forth, you'll see a bunch of cool animated/toon accessories and morphs. I use them all the time in my renders and they really good for blending with existing characters to create unique looks.

Wow, old thread. Greetings h2o. Welcome to the forum. Toon hair works like any other shader in that you have to have the item selected in both the scene tab and also the surfaces tab. Please let us know if you get it working, or if you still need help.

     cheers!
