Old Dynamic Clothing Unsupported?

Hi,

I know that the old Optitex clothing is .. well old.   I bought quite a lot of it from DAZ years ago.  Anyway, I just tried to load up a dynamic dress, and Daz Studio returns an error - "C Exception: Memory Access Violation - Attempted to read memory at address 0x00000000".  It returns this same error for I think all my dynamic stuff.  I'm currently using Daz Studio Beta v4.11.  Is there anything I can do, or is all my optitex stuff now basically useless?

Did you install the Optitex plugin for DAZ BETA?

  • Oh I see.  I previously looked at the list of installed plugins and it showed the basic version of the Dynamic Clothing Control with a green plug symbol, so I assumed it was installed correctly.  I'll do what you suggest and see what happens.  Thanks.

  • Oh damn it!  I've installed the plugin but I'm still getting the error for all my dynamic clothes.  Is there anything I can do??

I've had issues with installing plugins with the beta, mainly because I tried installing just to the beta. In my case, I had to install to both the beta and the release, and then enter the serial number in the release version. For whatever reason, the option to enter the serial number wasn't available in the beta. But once I entered the SN in the release version, the plugin started working correctly in the beta.

I hope this info turns out to be useful.

Well, first of all, you're not alone in getting the error. I've just tried loading an old dynamic clothing item for G1, and it threw the exact same message:

    2019-02-16 11:29:28.954 Error reading file G:/DAZ Content Files/My DAZ 3D Library/people/genesis/dynamic clothing/victoria 5/towel/towelv5.daz : C Exception: Memory Access Violation - Attempted to read memory at address 0x00000000

I also found this in the Beta thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3809366/#Comment_3809366

"As a workaround, load the .daz files in 4.10 and save as Scene Subset. The files will then be saved in the .duf format."

if you are getting a memory violation it can meant it is accessing something something else is, not much help but it may be something other than DAZ studio causing it

I have the latest beta and the default plugin works so whatever it is is not on my machine and its a Poncho.daz file too

  • I get it on some of the Optitex freebies though but I don't think any of those ones ever worked for me

so it's the files themselves not the plugin and maybe a version issue as suggested

  • yes saving as duf in 4.7 I still have works in 4.11 beta

so if you have an old installer that is one solution

they work well in dforce, although tbh, they don't look that good; too many shart edges and not depth at the edges.

I still use dynamic on occasion and it works fine for me - II just tried it, too.  Collision with hair will cause the problem you're having.  In the collision list, I untick everything that's not going to effect the drape - it's overkill, but it lessens the errors.

Yeah, no way is this going to be fixed as they'll simply rely on the workaround as a fix as there's no recognition as this being an issue worked on... I have no problem being proven wrong though, I'll revisit this thread/issue once we get a GR 4.11/BETA 4.12...

Yikes, I better start converting my old Optitex faves to prop dforceable clothing. I mean yeah, so far it's just a beta, but what if the next general release update breaks those suckers for good.
