Bundle suggestion, would like to hear why or why not

I'm sure people have suggested it before, but is there a reason for or market data to suggest that being able to create our own Pro bundles would be bad for business? The main reason why I ask is that the Pro bundles are always a mix of modern, fantasy, and sci-fi items that probably put many potential customers on the fence because there are always items included that they don't need.
I am a good example of this type of customer because the only Pro bundle I have ever bought was the Rune 7 one and that's because every item in it could be used in fantasy art. I don't know if it's the only bundle that ever focused exclusively on one genre, but it's definitely the only fantasy one. I do know that I would have bought many more Pro bundles if I could have chosen even a few of the items that were include (and of course, I only mean choosing from the DAZ originals that were part of that new character's release).
Any opinions, either for or against this idea would be appreciated. Maybe I'm overlooking something, as I can only speak from my own experience and what appears to be logical to me. Thanks.

I would be curious also as to the reasons DAZ won't do something like this. I see users on the forums that seem to purchase nearly every pro bundle there is, whereas I only own one and I got it for the genitals, LOL Then again, many of these users seems to never create a character for themselves, simply relying on what DAZ puts out and I am just the opposite. I have been tempted though, but there are always items included that i would have no use for, so I always thought it was kinda pointless to buy something I would never use, even if it was to get something else. I might be more inclined to purchase pro bundles if there were options and everything in it was something I could use.
Maybe it has to do with production and options with them not having enough new items to offer a wider range of items/ We all know it can take a bit of time to produce a quality addon.
I'm not sure about "bad for business" but i would be suprised if it wouldn't be very complicated in implementation. Let's image that you are buying Imogene 8 on opening day with the pro package.... letting everyone pick their own package means that there is no motivation to have a themed character since you can't group together Imogene 8's At Nouveau stuff since everyone get to pick their own choices. You have to get agreements with loads more vendors to have their stuff on sale for the Pro set, and what happens when someone buys a back catalog Pro Set... do they have to choose from the same back catalog assortment of products from it? Logistically, it all becomes very messy and discourages any genre products. Realistically, the Pro set isn't for every one so it is perfectly fine t by a la carte.
In a sense they have this to some extent with the add-ons that bring the price down. You can select 1 or more to get a reduction, and it's a choice. So it would only be an extension of that.
..I don't purchase pro or even starter bundles for figures as too often they have content iI wouldn't use like fantasy, skimp, or horror themed items. The last pro bundle I bought was the Young Teens 5 way back in 2012. I only ended up with the Vicky and Mike 5 pro bundles as they were offered with the upgrade to Carrara 8.5 Pro. In the Gen4 days, Pro Bundles included more useful items like the full head and body morphs, different skin maps, and poses which to me made them more worth the price than the Genesis ones.
One content bundle I wish they would offer are the basic head and body morphs for the base Genesis figure as they are necessary to do anything with it (particularly as those morphs are DOs and not PA items).
I buy pro bundles based on if I like items (the more the merrier); what is the cost of the items I like v the cost of the pro bundle.
I buy characters to morph them; I buy characters to change the look of the textures. I never use a character out of the box, other than when I'm first checking it out - presuming I do, and don't just get around to tweaking.
I really like Tasha 8; I have zero interest in the clothes, and little more in the poses and hair; the additional characters are great, but I have hundreds the same... I'm fine as I am. So is one of the few characters official from 7 or 8 I don't own (and I think 6 too).
... Sometimes, there aren't enough in the pro and add-ons combined to make up a pro bundle I like (I don't buy starter bundles).
What I don't like doing is selecting items I don't like to create a deal; If I had to do that for a pro bundle, I'd own far fewer of them.
I don't think I like that idea. It would only make sales even more complicated. They are complicated enough as it is...
If you purchase this model, you get to pick X products out of Y, and together it will only cost you Z...
Just keep it simple.
They effectively did this with Dog 8 - and people complained about the lack of a Pro Bundle.
There is one reason I'll never buy a pro bundle except at a very large discount. They never include the HD version. If I'm going to pay anything close to full price I need to get the HD version as well since I'll have to get it as well for the character to be of any use to me.
As to complicated to implement? They do build your own bundles all the time. They could certainly do them for the release of these characters.
I wouldn't.
thing is, they're putting new stuff up every day of the week. It wouldn;t be a big step to just say, buy 10 items with this new releacse character for $66 ... or for any reason ... buy any 11 products from this price range for whatever.
Plus its a sale everyday anymore. why not let us choose what we want
Not true, Edward, Maple, Floyd, Ollie and Edie all came bundled with the HD morph and it's the main reason I did buy them over other bundles. I wonder why they stopped doing that, maybe we are in the minority of needing the HD morph.
You couldn't expect non-DOs, that woudl make dividing the revenues extremely tricky. The add-ons can include PA items, since they still have individual prices.
I never buy pro bundles because 1) the price; and 2) they contain things I don't want. The only pro bundles I've acquired were either in Fast Grab or in the Freebie category, but those were older bundles that contained some things I already owned. When they included the HD add-on, I bought only the base character because the HD was included. That was nice when they included the HD with the base character for a limited time, and you didn't have to get the pro bundle to get the HD, it came with the base character on its own. That was a real treat!
Often the pro bundles are more expensive than the individual items I want such as the main figure an outfit and two hairs, so often I do buy pro bundles even if they are filled with fantasy warrior clothing or goth stuff I will never use.
Plus pro bundles trigger discounts you don’t get ala carte. Would I like to be able to buy bundles with contents I choose? Sure! But often male pro bundle size don’t have a lot of extras unlike the ladies so I feel lucky to get a pro bundle and a few textures.
If it wouldn't work out to include the addons as potential choices going by Richard's comment, it might be an interesting experiment to allow people to pick from both the new bundle offerings and a wide selection of existing DO items. If nothing else, it might provide some information on what people find compelling about a specific pro bundle, or how people plan to use a given character and whether that's in line with their established "theme" or not.
The most compelling pro bundle offers for me are ones that let me clean out a chunk of my wishlist, though, so I'm biased in favor of trying it--and I'd probably spring for the bundle no matter who or what it was attached to. :D
You're right I forgot about Edward, which I actually bought. The other 4 are old morphs which I have no interest in. I certainly hope they didn't base their decision making on those which I would guess are their lowest selling characters in each generation.
Taking a look at the Edward pro bundle you get 2 hairs, 2 poses, 2 addon characters and 4 outfits plus the HD add on. I would have much rather gottem the texture pack for the modern suit which I bought seperately than the fantasy stuff that I have no use for. I do clearly remember that over the next day or so after Edward came out additional Edward stuff came out, which happens with every character release that wasn't in any of the bundles, that would have been far nicer to have included as an option ina build your own.
I liked the Build your own with the Dog 8 Bundle. I got what I wanted and passed on what I didn't. Easy peasy.
Seems to me like years ago when Daz had really great things like 'Build your own bundle' and they had polls in the forums where ppl voted for items in a list and whatever items got the most votes, those were in our bundle. It was fun! I have several on an old hard drive still in those folders. But that was then....they wouldn't do that now.
Now they knew ppl were desperate for a new dog, so they figured win-win. We'd climb all over each other buying dog stuff. They'd have come out with bunch of cash either way (build your own, or force theirs on us). I spent more actually than I would have on a bundle cuz there were so many things and I wanted them while they were on sale.
Now if only we could get a cat. I'd be all over that and claw the person who tried to stop me!!!
I liked the Dog 8 Build your own Pro Bundle although I didn't have the money at the time. The big problem with building your own pro bundles is that it degenerates to just another name for a PC+ type club without the PC+ dues but including DO & PC+ items. I guess they could create a new club called the DAZ Originals Club+ where you got to build your own themed pro bundles of 11 items for X dollars that excluded products that were bundles themselves.
That just winds up being another marketing discount to sell products but would that increase profit or not? More sales but less profit is not a good business strategy.
Maybe they'll try something like a DOC+ Pro Bundle Club someday. Or maybe DOC+ club where you bought a $35 annual membership but could buy all the Pro Bundles are their lowest price point within the last 3 years without waiting for another sale. Of couse that buying flexibility is coming at the price of one of the cheaper pro bundles when on introductory sale so maybe it wuldn't be so popular. Or if enough people bought in, it's probably lead to increased sales.
there is BYOB today ..although you can only choose from 8 items, all newly released today as well...but then you get a free item if you buy 3 today new releases.
Thanks for the thoughts and opinions so far. To be honest, the only legitimate reason I've heard against this was what Nemesis said and the issue of buying old Pro bundles and what would be included.
Let me throw this idea out there then; what about new character Pro bundles actually being completely themed (all of their included items being fantasy, sci-fi, biker, etc) and then the next day (or several days), release the products that don't share the initial theme and give a discount when you add five of them in your cart along with the base character (to basically build your own 'standard' Pro bundle). For example, Rune 8's Pro bundle comes with nothing but fantasy outfits, texture expansions, fantasy poses and expressions, and various hair and textures. The next day, sci-fi and workout clothes and poses are released and if you add a few of those and a few of the hairs and textures from the first day in your cart with the Rune 8 base, you get a price equivelent to the original Pro bundle without buying any fantasy stuff.
Too complicated? How about releasing multiple Pro bundles with products lumped in by theme so we can just buy the one we want? :)
People complained about the HD morph that they didn't want being forced on them.
Like with the Dog 8 release, DAZ can't win. If the products are all in one theme, people complain that they don't like the theme and don't want any of it. If the products have more variety, people complain there isn't a theme. If there are buy one of these, one of those, to get one of these for less, etc., people say it's too complicated. If there aren't stacking discounts to get things for 80+% off, the sale isn't good enough.
As a few other people mentioned, my decision of whether or not to get the pro bundles comes from putting the items from the bundle I want in the cart. If the total is more than the bundle, I get the bundle and get extra stuff for free.
I want a Cat 8 pro bundle! Actually I want Cat 8 even if there was no pro bundle!
Exactly this IMVHO. Daz can't possibly hope to please all of the customers all the time ;). At least the way they do it now, if I don't like the majority of the stuff I buy either the Starter, the Base or I go a la carte. Either way, it's up to me. Besides, I've noticed that at the beginning of a Genesis cycle, I tend to buy more Pro bundles, but buy less of them over time as I build that version's hair and wardrobe. Chances are, no matter what is in the bundle (unless I'm floored, which hasn't happened much, to be honest), I'll continue that pattern of buying, no matter if it's themed or I can build my own.
