I’m sure you guys know about this, but in case anyone doesn’t or won’t end up getting the camera, you can use VisualSFM and Meshlab to make photoscanned models of real world objects... Here is an odd, but useful little video explaining the process...

One thing to remember, scanned objects are often very large meshes in terms of polygon count.
Or I could have been doing things wrong...
